I too was bewildered to see the lack of support for the hattrick. c'est la vie for the casual fairweather canuck fans.

Happy to hear that Demko is coming along. It would be reassuring to have a goaltender of the future able to sign longterm here. Maybe as a homegrown talent, their would be less controversy??

probably not. Refer to 1st paragraph.

Hats in the U.S. go for 5.95 in Canada 30 dollars. Maybe we should throw socks instead

Great write up Carol.

Demko sounds like he is a good team guy. Following the Canucks and new friends like McCann and the other rookies.

regarding the music, Canucks shouldn't be playing goal songs that other teams use, whether they are in the building or not.

Yeah, I don't know about that hat-trick stuff. went back to double check, wasn't an afternoon game, not like it was a lot of families and distraction with the kids. thinking people were just out to lunch, didn't realize it was three for Daniel.

true.

I'm surprised some of the teams don't have a box of hats rigged in the roof to drop the hats when there is a hat trick, everything else is so managed...

I like the sock idea... yeah, no doubt hats are expensive. people should bring a trucker hat from the dollar store just in case there's a hat trick...

Good point. They get to use the same hats over and over

I think the lack of hats is not hard to fathom. It's a question of economics. The canucks and NHL has created this situation by draining money from fans in attendance. Whether it's $10 hotdogs to $350 seats in lower bowl. Plus have you seen the cost of canuck merchandise?

It's easy for journalists to question why did this happen when they don't pay for anything when in the building including food. I think they forget the financial burden of fans these days...

I feel confident about Demko coming here and having a long career as a Canuck. I get a much different vibe about Boeser

Draft and develop, draft and develop….this is how you win!!! Once the pieces are there that afford you the opportunity to win, you use stockpiled pieces to try and get you over the hump.

Yep. was laughing at Sekeres and Price on the radio saying the money the hockey players win from the all star game/tourney, will be given to charity. Good ole' hockey players. Kypreos was on sportsnet later saying the money is not to be scoffed at and players would like to win it and it could come in handy. (no mention of charity or giving it away)

Nobody talks about or has an issue with the league and ownership making money off the allstar weekend. It is funny when people start telling other people what they should do with their money.

He is definitely a bit of an enigma to me.
I suppose it's because he seems quiet, is going the University route and not chomping at the bit to get in the pro's...plus he's a Yank.
Not that any of those things are bad per se, just a bit different than the usual rhetoric we are used to.

I only ever went to half a dozen games in person...and i'm not a hat guy, but i always assumed you could get your hat back somehow.

Exactly. Plus he grew up in Minny whose arch rivals are the Canucks. He can stay in college a year or two more and pick who he chooses to play with. He could opt to play with Parise Suter and home town Wild or the Hawks or the rebuilding Canucks on the other side of the continent.

It is just a gut feeling , nothing to back it up

I started to compare him to Booth and stopped myself. I've only seen college hockey highlights. Still unsure what type of hockey sense he has. This is hb, don't know why I don't want to talk about something I know zilch about.

Vancouver is not a blue collar town. Ball caps don't look good with suits and P-Coats....places like Edmonton and Pittsburgh are full of slobs that wear the same ball so to the game that they wore all day chopping wood and changing oil....so what do they care if they lose it to a hat trick celly?

The only free food in the press box is popcorn, pop, tea & coffee, water. There's a pre-game press meal, but those who partake have to pay for it.

I've been a season-ticket holder and I know it costs a lot to go to games - and a lot more than it costs in Arizona. But that doesn't explain how Shawn Matthias got a garbage can full of hats last February - in a premium game against Boston - and Daniel got virtually nothing.

The only logical explanation I can come up with is simply that fans weren't expecting it for Daniel. His last two goals came close together near the end of the game—at a time when many were expecting the Canucks to do their usual third-period swoon. I think maybe he just took 'em by surprise.

the only explanation.

watching at home, I did notice 2 hats on the ice, not at the same time. and saw at least one thrown from the upper bowl that did not reach the ice...

Agreed. Again, question of economics. You don't see many blue collars at $350+ a seat.

Saying that, you might be surprised with the types that occupy this city. All kinds, from the very hard to the very soft.
