It's funny how Toews can be named the best in the world with 1 70 point season yet Crosby's offence is low for a quarter of a season and people write-him-off.

Was never a Crosby fan. But I have to admit he is really good. The same crap was being written about Ovechkin a few years back when he had 32 goals.

Crosby will be fine and and as much as it pains me to say, one the best players in the NHL.

Ovechkin didn't play well when he had a coaching staff that didn't play him to his strengths. The same exact thing is happening with Crosby this season. And that is not going to change until the team system changes. It's also negatively affecting MANY of the Penguins including Letang and Hornqvist. If not for strong goaltending, Johnston wouldn't have a job right now.

Toews has been the best 200ft all around player in the league since 2010. Nobody ever claimed Toews was the best scorer. That has been Sidney Crosby. Now, its Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn and Patrick Kane as the 3 best scorers in the league. Tavares is not far behind them.

No. It's been Crosby. Toews doesn't score enough to be the "Best Overall Player". Crosby has the 5th best PPG in NHL history.

People seem to be crediting defensive play as more Important than offence. It's ridiculous.

This topic is absurd. This is the first season, he has been healthy, that his stats are not amongst the best in the league.

Crosby is still the best player in the league. One bad quarter of the season doesn't erase almost a decade of dominance.

sooooooo how is that "winning" thing going right now? having the "awesome" toews (actually think he is awesome) and the most dominant player atm in kane and still almost not in the playoffs (atm and yes I know it is early). know my team is in the same situation (a worse one) as chicago but "flaming" other people seems to be the "cool" thing to do

If you look at crosbys goals for per 60 AND goals against per 60, they are both better than toews. Toews is supposed to be a better defensive player, yet Crosby has better offensive and defensive numbers. Don't forget Sid has never had the supporting players the Hawks have had. People say Sid has been bad this year, but Toews has looked worse. These numbers were all prior to this season though

Crosby durability is an issue. Toews is a champion and his durability is not in question. Same can be said about Kopitar. The best players lead by example. They inspire the team around them and make other players better. There is no question that Crosby elevates wingers to their best scoring totals with his gifted playmaking, but as a captain, he is not elite.

Crosby has received an obnoxious amount of media attention ever since his debut, and issues do tend to magnify. However, his reputation as a “whiner” and a “diver” don’t look good hanging on the supposed world’s best.

Perhaps the most polarizing moment came at the Winter Classic. Crosby’s Penguins were battling Toews’s Blackhawks in an exciting matchup when Crosby went down perhaps too easily. Toews leapt up on the bench cursing the fall. He went over to Crosby as soon as possible to let him know what he saw and recommended Crosby stay on his feet.
