Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks: Will They Stand Pat if Playoffs Are A Possibility? A tight trade market could make it even more likely that the Vancouver Canucks will stay the course despite seeing their lineup ravaged by injuries.

Certainly hope not. Would be a sign the FA is still running the show and Linden and Benning are nothing but puppets. The canucks need to accumulate assets for the likes of Prust, Vrbata , Hamhuis and bartowski. Then give guys like Shink, Gaunce and ci a little taste

What a joke if true. This team is bottom 5 in the league when everyone plays the games in hand. Not like trading the 5 UFAs we have will make any major difference to our playoff chances.

On another note how good are those 2 finish dudes playing. Any of those top 5 guys looking good right now.

good blog

with so many teams close to the playoffs, maybe there will be more ufa for ufa trades for guys a teams see as a better long-term fit.

so maybe you see a few guys moved like eriksson, okposo, ladd, vrbata etc. for each other; along with some traditional sell-offs.

If they don't at least trade Vrbata I'll be pissed off...they need a second 1st round pick.

If they manage to secure another 1st round pick that will be 7 in the past 4 drafts. A pretty good start to a re-tool. With one top pick this project could be done quite quickly.

My thoughts exactly. By not making those trades you just prolong not making the playoffs by years. Dont want to turn in to the Leafs...

I agree JB stands pat with regards to buying and selling, unless it's that perfect deal every GM in the NHL wants. He's more enamored with finding the perfect fit with the youngsters. Poor asset management.

I don't think you grasp how pathetic the leafs truly are.

Nux would have to be off the scales bad for a good 15 years plus, and have soap opera like drama in the front office and in the dressing room to achieve the level of bottom feeding clown show the leafs have achieved, and even then it would be hard to match them. Look at how bad the oilers had to be to get close and all the front office drama...

The Nux have actually won 3 rounds in the playoffs on 3 separate occasions. Leafs have never done that.

Even hammer. He's still day and night better then what's his name on the Oilers. And he got a 1st and a top prospect.
I would love if he sold high on Hansen as well. Be awesome to end up with about 5 picks in the first 2 rounds and a couple 3rd rounders as well.

What we need is the teams below us to win their games and for Hank to shut it down. Then benning has to cut bait

Call me crazy, but I think he's saying he doesn't want 10 yrs of just missing the playoffs like the flames and leafs.

Don't bash Toronto to bad. Gaurentee they are a good team before edm. What a (frank)ing disaster that is.

If JB & WD are really as high on this young D like they suggest, there shouldn't be a problem moving Hamhuis.

As I said yesterday, since Dale Tallon took over the Florida Panthers in May of 2010, they've had six drafts which includes one 1st overall, a 2nd overall, two 3rd overall's, 11th overall, 19th overall, 23rd overall and 25th overall....those are all first round picks obviously.

They are just finally turning the corner. Unless you draft a generational player, the process is long and arduous. Brace yourselves.

meddling ownership was the root problem with the leafs for the better part of the last 10 years or so.

as an outsider, i see aquilini as the type of meddler that leads a team down the path of perpetual mediocrity.

Whether the Canucks continue to lose by keeping assets instead of selling OR selling assets and building for the future, its all the same steaming pile of stool. I have said it once and I will say it again, a big middle finger goes to Francesco Aquilini and Canuck ownership for being money hungry a$$holes and now allowing management to do a true rebuild. SELL NOW and get this team going in the right and proper direction instead of this non-sense.

As an outsider I dunno if you should be bashing the leafs oilers or any Canadian team really ...I like both their teams moving forward more than the nucks ...if this season goes well prospect wise that can change but right now the high end skill pieces just aren't there yet in van
