Play this game 10 times, the Flyers win 9. Bad time to get the unlucky loss. Bad opponent for it to happen against. Double whammy. Oh well.
There are some great takeaways to be had...like Schenn continuing his terrific play. Coots's first game back, he helped out a ton. Didn't miss a beat. Streit is also looking better since MDZ went down. This is good news, whether he's traded or not. But he's looking more like the pre-pubic plate sundered Streit.
And....oh my god! What is THAT? Oh it's an actual NHL quality third line! Huzzah, tweeners don't have to play third line! Cousins has proven to be quite respectable as a 2 way player, like you'd like of all your centers. He makes up in smarts and tenacity what he lacks in foot speed. And Laughton...the wing experiment is proving a success, to the happiness of quite a few posters here who've been calling for it for awhile. |

Begrudgingly, I'd do that trade.

It hurts to say it, but you're so right. The drop off from Giroux to Weal is slim to none. Time to part ways. |

The faint hope dimmed tonight. Losing two points to a team that you're chasing, and having the others you are chasing win kind of slams another torpedo into the hull of the good ship Playoffs.
The good news, it sure seems to be a seller's market, and the way some of the potential trade chips are playing right now helps Hextall in setting up the yard sale tent.
Sucks because they played a good game tonight, got killed by a couple bad plays and good goaltending by Ward. |

I read the first line, "The faint hope dimmed tonight," and I thought you were composing some artsy fartsy free verse poem post. |

Even with Brayden Schenn playing well, he still continues to be an engma to me. Since breaking up the Giroux, Raffl and Schenn line and being on a line where he has more opportunity to have possession time with the puck (most notably with Couturier), I've noticed within the last month to the last month and a half, Schenn has played in all three forward spots and has done well in all three slots. I have to admit that I was as frustrated as anyone not knowing where he belonged but it really does seem like he's finding some comfort on the ice.

Overall it's nice seeing Voracek, Simmonds and Schenn take the ball and run with it, even if we're not seeing the most ideal of positive results. |

With all of the grief that Gudas has gotten over the last few days/weeks, I thought he played a pretty solid game last night. Some good break-ups and a couple of timely poke checks. He played a simple game and was effective. The big difference being the amount of ice time he was given (only Manning played less). I have no problems with him as long as that type of play continues. |

He's a good hockey player when he's not putting himself in a bad position to unnecessarily put a player in traction. |

At the end of the night, the Flyers had 66 shot attempts to Carolina’s 37. While that looks lovely on a Corsi/Fenwick chart, it mattered not a whit on the scoreboard at the end of the night. That's all that matters, especially this time of year.

I don't blame one goal for the whole loss but man the Neuvirth first goal seemed to doom the Flyers. They had all the momentum and were controlling the game and that seem to change everything. |

I agree.
I wouldn't mind moving forward with Schenn. If his deal is similar to Couturier. I do wonder though what Hextall thinks and maybe to sell high on Schenn might be now. He could provide secondary scoring for a team and is young. I wonder what return you would get.
