Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Fans Waiting for More Trade Deadline Developments Radim Vrbata and Dan Hamhuis are still the most popular names being tossed around as trade bait for the Vancouver Canucks as Monday's deadline nears.

Great Blog Carol.

what do you envision (If True) comes back from ARI? I can't see them Boedker. I can't see them giving away picks..

Do you have any suspicion that McCann gets dealt for a quality top 6 winger or top 4 D-man?

If McCann gets dealt it will be in the offseason imo.

I was thinking maybe a later-round pick from Arizona - a fourth or fifth?

They have a whack of young defensemen who are all RFAs at the end of the year. Maybe they'd give up Kevin Connauton, Klas Dahlbeck or Jarred Tinordi?

I'm going to say no, for now, on McCann. I think they'll keep him, then send him to Utica as soon as they're able.

Would it really surprise you though if Benning traded him before Monday...?

A fourth or fifth round pick for Vrbata? Surely his stock, albeit a ton lower than it was last year, is worth more than that?

I would not want any of the three D-men mentioned above. Perhaps a prospect (as they have quite a few).

I don't think Vrbata would be worth more than that to a non-playoff team unless they're guaranteed that they can re-sign him. And I think with his limited no-trade, he could easily kibosh a deal to a playoff team if he doesn't want to go, which is going to lower his value.

No names jump out at me on Arizona's list of prospect defensemen.

He has been sitting quite a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a deal out there that he's a part of and they don't want to risk injury.

Thanks Carol

Why would Arizona give up anything for a UFA who will sign there in the summer anyways? Maybe a 6th or 7th? Not an appropriate trading partner. Some team will take a chance on him that has injury concerns in their top 9. I am still hopeful we can get a 3rd round pick for him assuming the injury is minor.

In regards to Mcann...I'd be surprised if Benning would trade him so soon after drafting him. I suppose anything is possible with Trader Jim

does vrbata have a full or limited NTC?

yeah, AZ doesn't have much in the way of d-prospects.

i could actually see him wanting to come back to AZ. As much as it would be a weird deal, Maloney is the type of GM to do favors for his veterans.

Vrbata's allowed to list eight teams he's willing to be traded to. It has been speculated that he could choose non-playoff teams who are unlikely to give up much, if anything, for him, if he doesn't want to be dealt.

That's why I think Arizona does make some sense, though the return would likely be low.

is it okay for us to be okay with his team tanking? Not 100% sure about the tanking rules these days.

well, a low return is better than losing him for nothing this summer

look at all of you. Are we all ok with settling for a 5th round pick now for Vrbata? And being OK with it.. The bar is at an all time low

It's one thing to say you are okay with it in theory, if it happens, we will see anarchy, cats sleeping with dogs, and every other sign of the apocalypse...

I am just saying, its sad. We all knew we weren't winning a cup last year and we let Matthias and Richardson walk for free. Now we are all "fine" with low returns on quality rentals. The bar has been set so unbelievably low now that any return is a great reward it seems.

90% of the time we look at the "Glass Half Empty", its kinda nice to have a different perspective to Vrbata and what he can return. Its not like he was completely useless for the Canucks.

Its also 99.9% of us want the rebuild but that 0.01% (FA) is a greedy (frank).

Edit* we take what we can get at this point like we have before.

The main reason we are fine with a low return for Vrbata is because he wants to miss the playoffs. If this is true, then I wonder what a team will want to pay him next season? Nobody is going to pay money for a guy who openly wants to miss the playoffs.
