Hey Ek, unfortunately for McDavid his injury will prevent him from winning the Calder. Age aside, I believe Parnarin should win. Thoughts !!

If Panarin wasn't so far ahead of all the other rookies then yes...but I think when it comes time to vote they won't be able to deny Panarin the calder. if it were me id give it to mcdavid but i dont think thats going to happen. he may be a finalist though.

Panarin is playing with elite players. Mcdavid is the elite player on the coilers.

If he continues in the same pace the rest of the year him, panarin and larking will probably be the top three. I still think panarin deserves to win though. Without him the blackhawks would probably be close to a wild card position.

We all know what Gostisbehere did was a much tougher feat. Breaking a nearly 40 year old rookie record and doing something no D man has done in 20 years. That said the season is not over and if McDavid continues this pace it will come down to the wire.

If the Flyers somehow make the playoffs I don't know how Ghost doesn't win it. His call up was the clear turning point for this team.

Forsberg is the best player from last year and ignored because he doesn't play in Canada or Chicago (God's City)- McDavid will not win because of time missed.

Yeah, but the 4 guys that have 20 points in that time have all played 2 games less than McDavid. That stat is a little skewed... There's a lot of good candidates for the Calder this year, and some have probably had better overall seasons than McDavid.

What are you talking about? Forsberg was a favourite until his production dropped off dramatically. The Calder winner from last year played for Florida and the award was well deserved.

I agree with you, but I think when a guys like McJesus comes into the league and lives up to the hype the voters will be looking for every reason to give it to him.

Cite to me an individual trophy, determined by opinion, that has been awarded to a player who participated in fewer than half of his team's games... McDavid will not be a finalist. Larkin, ghostberry, and Panarin are your finalists and it's obvious.

The actual award is Panarin's by a mile. The metrics that will give the trophy to Panarin all favor him over Larkin. He may well finish in the top ten in nhl scoring, how is that something you guys can't appreciate? Ghostberry is closer than Larkin because he is the flyers MVP, but the flyers are bad and he's just not as impressive as Panarin.

McDavid is younger than Panarin, playing with a much weaker roster. I don't believe players who have spent time in other professional leagues should be given the same consideration.

If McDavid continues to score at or near the pace he's producing at ... then the Calder should be his.

Both Panarin and Larkin playing with better players. Gostisbehere should get some honorable mention... but its unlikely he maintains the scoring pace.. .and again, he's older by 3 or 4 years.

So Auston Mathews should not be considered for next season?

indeed. panarin is playing with kane that is 1st in scoring by far AND he is 24 years old... mc david is playing at same pace that crosby did in his rookie season ALTHOUGH Crosby played on a far worse team especially offensivly and who he played with than mc david is. mc david is playing on the worst team in the league right now though

I don't think it's a coincidence that Patty Kane's production has gone way up playing with Panarin! The kids a phenomenal talent, like McDavid, he (Panarin) should win it.

No - the Leafs are clearly worse, and they'll be down there as long as Edmonton because they're following the same path.

please read "shouldn't be given the same consideration"...

so no.

technically he won't be a professional rookie - that's what I was getting at - but intended more for the typical Euros .. .who come over when they are 22 or more years old....

yes the Leafs are worse.... loving the tank.... hopefully all the way to a WELL DESERVED lottery win. and its awesome how the Leafs keep breaking the rules by claiming players off waivers, putting players on the LITR and making players go away...
thumbsup:

Canucks don't need to worry though... they've got the Sedin's locked up for a few years... keep those 9-12 position finishes strong. :
