Canucks will thrash the Sharks tonight, because that is just how this season is going. 3-1 Canucks
I used to want to keep Boeser/Demko in college another season, let them simmer... but that Vessey stuff scare the hell out of me, get them to Utica ASAP JB.
A month ago, I was vehemently anti-tank... as Bob say's oh the times they are a changin
I dont even know myself anymore. |

I usually give canucks fans a lot of leeway in their own blog, but I am letting you know this name calling is not welcome.
This is a warning, thanks for understanding

I'm glad JB thinks the success Boeser has had this year might put returning to ND in doubt. I would like to see him leave and be challenged by the pro game. I would even be inclined to have both join Utica's playoff run and burn a year of their ELC's if thats what it would take |

IMO, I don't think Benning is trying to "build" a team right now. More like filling some gaps to keep the team competative until they understand what they have in the system. I don't think there is one prospect on this team that's a true cornerstone to build a franchise around. Players like Horvat, McCann, and Gaunce will fill supporting roles when the nucks once again become a competitive team.
That's why I think a high draft pick is the single most important goal for this team. Nothing else matters right now. Got to find that superstar, just like they did when they drafted the twins. Cornerstone players.

Exactly. Many say the Oilers have built a losing tradition but all I see is a potential powerhouse of a team in the near future as long as their management team dosn't (frank) it up.
Maybe this is a new era for NHL management. With the current way NHL rules are structured around team management, maybe tanking for four or five seasons is the most direct route to long term team success? |

He's going to have to go through the growing pains of a full schedule eventually anyways, so I completely agree. |

Well said. I think the athleticism of young athletes has to be taken into account as well. There are a lot more NHL ready 18 year olds in this era than there were 15 years ago, it really is remarkable the changes in fitness in Hockey. I'm not sure about tanking for 4-5, but I can't see, in this day and age; why you wouldn't be successful with 3 or more years of top 5 picks (in every round), given the conditioning and depth of the many Leagues.
We already have a losing mentality, which was my biggest fear, so might as well build the team properly. |

For all those who say tanking is the way to go, remember this: Teams like the Oilers, Leafs, Jets and Flames have fan bases that are patient and don't mind spending money to watch their teams lose. As well, unless it's CFL season there's nothing else to do in those cities that really would compete for the dollars that hockey fans would spend on. Vancouver doesn't have that luxury, we have a history of fans jumping on and off the bandwagon and leaving the building emptish when the team isn't doing well. FA is not the kind of person to spend all this money and not get a return on investment. While it might be the /best/ way back to respectability, with the way the market is, it may be that FA himself won't be patient enough with the losing and the fans staying away and tickets having to be lowered in response to try and keep people coming in the doors long enough to do it properly. Just something to consider. |

I have no idea where this moral stance against tanking is coming from. It is a totally acceptable tool to use in this modern era of sports management.
Saying that, I also think professional athletes should be allowed to enhance their performance by artificial means as long as it's done in a controlled and safe environment.
So my moral stance might be a bit scewed. |

I can usually tell a joke, and someone who's trying to stir up stuff. Is idiot reportable? Dont think so.... so go cry somewhere else. I'll have a sense of humour when you start being funny go to 4chan if you want to act moronic, or in fact, just leave me out of it. |

I sure hope not, I want a proper rebuild. I'm expecting a 5-6 year rebuild. |
