Have you watched any highlights from Montreal Canadians games this year? PK deserves a Carey Price like sweep on any awards at this event. Or as I like to call him the man of a thousand excuses. But I didn't see the most accurate shot when picking off a baby in the crowd anywhere on this list? |

I agree with Peter in Edmonton being the worst. Every one knew Edmontons problems last summer and I thought Peter would come in and fix them. He basically did nothing but watch his team play games in free seats.
I think he is gun shy to make a significant trade. He traded Sequin for basically nothing and his first move with Edmonton was two great draft pics for Reinhart which hasn't panned out.

Pretty much pointless to list stats. What did Sutter play 12 games?
But credit to Bonino, he's playing well for Pits. |

People regularly over-simplify Edmonton's situation by crapping on the defense or the goalies.
The real problems are deeper.
I suspect Bob Mackenzie has it right when he says that they have too many guys who have been through too many changes and way too much losing and that they are now "damaged".
While I understand that is pretty vague, I think it is something intangible like that that is the real problem. They should not be failing so epicly with that roster. |

Good blog
The only issue I have is this never ending assumption of the market we all tend to have. And then blanketing that thought in every situation
In terms of trading the first; teams in the hunt at the deadline weren't going to deal us a stud defender for a pick. That's not how being a buyer works.
So that leaves about 4-5 seller teams. And ou of that group, really only the jets might've had what the oilers were looking for in trouba. And we don't actually know that hes available.
But despite all of this, it's like chiarelli dropped the ball and was gunshy regardless that there's literally zero evidence of this.
And we know for sure he made offers on both of Hamilton and Jones.
But again, this becomes background noise and forgotten for the convenient narrative |

No Leafs nominated? The internet will be broken by the combination of upset anti-Leaf fans for obvious reasons and Leafs fans simply for not being included.
Anyways, I enjoyed your blog Tanner. |

He should have overpaid for one of Hamilton or Jones.
He should have been creative last year at the draft when his first rounder from this year would have some mystery and he could have gotten something for it that would have helped the team make the Playoff this year.
He should have identified some elite defensive players and then aquired a couple of them. I don't know, I'm sure being a GM is way harder than it looks, don't get me wrong, but I think he has to take some blame here. |

Thanks sir. I really think the Leafs were one of the best run teams who made some of the best moves this year. Yeah, the record sucks, but getting rid of Phaneuf's contract, getting assets for Mattias and Polak, etc. was all very impressive. |

Their goalie was actually pretty good, but they were forced to use Sekara in a #1 role, they ruined Schultz, Nurse wasn't really ready, Reinhart couldn't make the team regularly, and considering how long they've been bad for, their lack of D prospects is concerning.
That being said, I do agree with you, as I've written the same thing a million times. Nurse, Sekara, Davidson, Klefbom especiialy make up a good foundation, but they need a stud. |

"Biggest Dissapointment"
Jesus, James. I'm normally not one to point out spelling errors, even when you make not just one, but two errors in attempting to spell "disappointment".
I would have let this not so egregious error go, but for the fact that in the past few weeks you have mentioned that you are a master of semantics and "literally an expert" when it comes to English; engaging in a back-and-forth with some other board user about proper grammar, with you going so far as (claiming to) have confirmed the proper usage with your old university English professor mentor.
Professional writers and reporters use spell check, but I've always given you a pass in that regard as I think we all know you fall somewhat short of that bar. But I felt compelled to mention it today after your comments last week - surely, as a self-proclaimed expert of the English language, you'd have enough respect for it to stop butchering it?
Jesus, James, if you want to stop being ridiculed by the entire Hockeybuzz community, stop making it so damn easy for us. We're not being mean to you or singling you out for no good reason - we're simply using your own words against you week after week. It's the height of hypocrisy when you cry about people being grammar nazis, or not understanding statistics, or cherry-picking stats. |

Hamiltons not even that good. A mediocre top 4 guy with some offence. High potential sure. But he's not better than either of klefbom or sekera in anything but hype.
Plus, by all accounts the Bruins took marginally less from the flames than giving him to outgoing chiarelli.
As far as Jones; i think your argument is way too much assumption. What seals the deal beyond nuge? I can only speak for myself, but if i want johansen for some of the reasons that seem obvious, another middling pick doesn't sway me to go with nuge instead Nor does even adding yaks.
And this isn't taking into account that he was probably lowballed by gms doing their job and taking advantage of a desperate gm.
I don't believe there was any reasonable offer for the first before said gms know what it is. Gotta think both sides wanna get good value, but neither side knows what that value actually is |

I thought the same thing, but after watching him a lot this year, I think he's pretty decent with some huge upside. 40 point D man are pretty rare and I think as he gets' older he'll be better at preventing shots.
As for Jones, I think RNH is a better player than Ryan Johansen, so if that was true I don't know what Nashville was thinking. But Jones is going to win a Norris one day, so I don't know, it might have been worth overpaying.

This is actually true and it turns out I was correct - and that the other poster turned out to have been just giving me a hard time with no actual clue as to proper usage rules. For the record, I have been employed as both an editor and an English teacher, but writing and editing your own work is quite difficult, as anyone who has written (especially those of us without the luxury of an editor) can attest to. Thanks for the hot-tip though, I will correct the spelling.
