As weak as most of us think we are on defense, we actually have a somewhat perplexing situation brewing. I agree that McCabe and Bogo seem like a solid middle paring, and it seems we still need to find a partner for Risto, and that player doesn't look like he is already in the system. But if we can do that then it looks like we'll have one heck of a log jam comings soon for spots 5-7.
Pysyk, Nelson, Guhle, Martin, Rhuwedel, Borgen, Florentino, all have shots at these spots after Gorges, Colvo, and Franson are gone, and then there will be an awful lot of draft picks coming this offseason and next.

Perhaps, and I repeat perhaps, TM is thinking the opposite of what we all are and wants Risto to be the pp qb, the one who carries the puck, the mobile big guy Meyers kinda sorta used to be. Instead of looking at Yandle/Barrie types maybe he looks at someone like Brodin to be the anchor that allows Risto to wheel and deal more. With one or 2 more better scorers on this team all the other boats will float a little higher, too.
Just saying Risto had 41 pts last year and I don't know if he's old enough to buy beer yet, which makes me think he will only improve in the offense side if the organization wants that out of him.
Looking at the playoff teams I don't see many one-dimensional, offense-mainly d men tearing it up, but I do see quality guys who play well at both ends.
I also like that Bogo has at least some offense to his game, too.

41 pts is not insignificant. I love Gorges, he isn't the best, but his compete level and leadership are great...but he is offensively challenged to say the least. If Risto had a more capable partner in the O-Zone...could see 60 pts out of Risto...there is your QB, I believe 60 would put him near the top of the standings for defenseman. Good argument.

I like your line of thinking here, a lot.
However, GMTM did state specifically he is looking to acquire a PP QB.
I ike the idea of putting Mccabe with risto and putting either Marc Edwourd Vlasic or Marco Scandella on our 2nd pairing.
I would still be ok if Cam Fowler shows up on draft day.
If Joulevi is available at 8, grab him, send him to AHL to transition his game to NA stylie.
Enough of.this CHA no AHL rule BS. - IonSabres
He played in the OHL therefore in the same boat as any other Canadian kid coming through the ranks. Has to be at least 20 or serve 3 years in junior before AHL elgibility

Saw glimpses of Jack helming the pp near the end of the year....
I almost hope TM is more concerned with improving the forward ranks right now than anything. We're not a lock for playoffs this year so going with what we have now on D (and maybe one of Guhle or Nelson have a great camp and become the next Ghost!) is wise, and if we're in the hunt he trades for more d depth later. Don't have to sell the farm now, necessarily, to get the guy we all want.
Also the expansion draft next year should open up some good D guys. But we def. need more scoring, asap.
