I tend to agree with you, but imo, the jury's still out...he should get his shot this season |

If he's back next year he could get between 28-32 starts and let Lehner play out the other 48-52 (if he's able to stay healthy he should get around these many starts) |

I love Chad's attitude and he really seemed to fit in well. I know the Sabres have a lot of Goalies in the system so I don't know if there is a place for him here, however I think he has a good chance here with the jury still out on Lehner. Who else is really challenging Lehner who is signed to a contract right now?
Regardless, if he re-signs here, or elsewhere, I believe Chad will do good wherever he may end up. |

Because he's an average goaltender at best. If he's your starter you're picking 8th overall very year |

Small carry forward from last blog... The over paying a bottom 6 player is the ultimate anchor. Be very careful with players like mcginn, foligno etc.. |

Drouin's last night could be the worst ever!!!! First they moan about scoring being down, and what gimmick are we going to implement in order to get scoring up. Then they throw this stupid offside review rule in to slow the game down, and take away the fun of celebrating goals, while knocking the scoring down. The offsides rule is in place to prevent cherry picking, not to make sure Drouin's back skate is fully on the ice when the puck enters the zone. That would be like video reviewing balls, and strikes in baseball. It's complete B.S., and needs to be dropped at the end of the playoffs. The Refs are right 95% of the time, leave it at that.
P.S.- F the Pens. |

Johnsons Save% is top 10 of guys who played 30+, right there with Hank and all the big names and better than guys like Quick. 9 goalies in the entire league with that many games are ahead of him. He is right there with Holtby as well and i would say Holtby had a pretty good year with a much better team and defense. |

The thing that bugs me about Lehner is his inability to stop breakaways. It could be a major factor of whether or not we get into the playoffs. |

Bring Johnson back for one more year. With the expansion draft lurking next year, I am very happy with him (if he signs a 1-yr deal) and Lehner on the final year of there contracts and then trying to get someone's goalie so they don't lose them for nothing (Bishop, Marc-Andre, etc.)
And if Johnson does come back, shouldn't it be his job to lose? I'd think Lehner has A LOT to prove |

A little extra credit goes to a top 10 goalie on a crappy team. |

People don't give him credit because he doesn't have a fancy " NAME ", kid played very well here in this system. That's why I say some players are better because of the system, stay away from guys like Brian Shaw he fits well in the Hawks system. Let some other team pay him big money and get stuck with him. |

Few things here.
Johnson thinks he's proved to the league that he deserves an opportunity to start. The team here clearly thinks Lehner is ahead of him, based not only on the price they paid but that Lehner was the immediate starter once he 'returned' from injury. the team knew he wasn't fully healed so he sat more games than a starter typically would. I highly doubt Johnson will be signing here if there's a starting opportunity in, say, Calgary or Toronto. |

Andrew Shaw is actually a pretty good player. You're not bringing him in to score though. I personally don't think he's needed on this team. We've already got the Swede and Braveheart |

I would argue that play was well within the spirit of the rule and the goal should have counted. His skate being an inch off the ice had no bearing on the outcome of that play because he still had one skate was still behind the line. There needs to be a standard for flagrant offside versus marginally offside, or (preferably) just dump the rule. |

Valid points. But I could see the league low-balling him because he's 30 with just over 100 games for his career, with a good chunk being from last season. Maybe GMTM gives an extra million to stay, or maybe another team offers a longer tenure. Time will tell |

I offer him a 1 year deal, a little more money and a 50/50 split in games as long as he keeps up.

100% on board with this. He's worth a raise and like I said Lehner has a lot to prove. It's the old "what have you done for me lately" scenario with Robin IMO |
