Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Options at Wing Will Get Clearer After Jimmy Vesey Signs Jimmy Vesey's August 15th free agency is just around the corner. Once he decides where he'll sign, other teams will likely start making moves to fill spaces on the wing.

Thanks Carol!

I didnt realize Tampa was at max contracts. That and their future bind with the salary cap seem to be prime to acquire a bad contract in order to receive some promising youth or draft picks

"I'm surprised that Calgary still hasn't locked up Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan!"

Could get interesting.

Forget Monahan, how will the Canucks sign Gaunce next year if he isn't claimed in the expansion draft?

Carol, I don't understand how Vesey could sign with Buffalo already if he is not a free agent until Aug.15?

Buffalo acquired Vesey's rights from Nashville awhile back, and already did their courtship. They're the only team that *can* sign him before Aug. 15.

They traded a 3rd for his negotiating rights

Edit. imagine the backlash if Benning made that trade

But White has 1C Potential, and Ceci could be a 3D with Juolevi being a possible legit 1D. Sets us up to compete better in 3 years time rather than 5 or 6 years time.

White is UFA. We drafted him and moved on from him no need to rehash that. Ceci no thanks.

http://www.hockeysfuture....om/prospects/colin-white/

5. Colin White, Forward, Boston College(Ottawa Senators)

Once thought to be a potential top-10, even top-5 NHL Draft pick, a lack of offensive production due in large part to a bout of mononucleosis last season dropped White to 21st in the NHL Draft. But in his first full season back healthy, White showed renewed scoring prowess and the Senators seemed primed to reap the rewards of their pick.

White is a true centerman with high hockey intelligence that is comfortable playing in all three seasons. He's the type of player that can really drive possession for his team and make everyone around him look better, and has the capability to both create a goal with a nice pass, or finish off a play with a good shot. White brings a little bit of everything to the table and should have no trouble developing into a very good second line center at the NHL level.

Ranked ahead of Vesey, Schmaltz, etc. Guy could be the 1C we are looking for.

How would you compare Very or Baertchi at their stage in their careers when acquired to Vessey at his currently?

They traded for a UFA. The situations aren't worth comparing. You are better than this

I'm aware of that but Vessy is also the best college prospect and the other two were guys that were deemed expendable by their teams.

Both instances are risks but the Canucks moved better picks for players who although guaranteed to be able to play were not seen as top flight prospects or at least how I view it and why I was asking how you compared players.

Let me put it this way. Leftcoaster likes Monahan, the Canucks need a player like him, offer sheets piss off Burke. What's to lose?
