Nice to see the rooks playing so well, without Austin Matthews in the lineup. The future is bright. Maybe we need Dozzer's funky sunglasses to deflect the glare.

The players of all the teams appear to not being use to playing together. Tournament play doesn't seem to be different than Junior hockey. Also didn't see a lot from Marner in the two games.

Much preferred the Team Canada game last night.

Team Canada is of course, the Gold Standard. Every team wants to see how they matched up against the two time Gold medal winning Olympic team. Canada has proven that they can win on the European rink and excel even more so, in their native North American style rink.

During the second intermission, the Hockey panel showed a stat about why Canadian hockey was more dominant then the Czech National program. Although Canada has roughly 3 times the population, it showed that the Czech Republic had 71 indoor arena's, where Canada had over 6,000. It's in our DNA and is our National Religion.

Canada actually needs more ice rinks since it is very tough and expensive to get enough ice time in Toronto. Use to be a coach and the President of a hockey association in Toronto and it was an annual challenge. Girls leagues are also growing and placing even more demands. I expect beer leagues also find it a challenge to get enough ice too. Damn global warming is definitely making it tough on winter outside rinks.

It appears that his only downside, is his size, but I do remember Brian Rafalski and he was a pretty decent defender. If Dermott turns into a Rafalski type defender, it's a great pick.

And that' just one city! We also have many lakes and outside facilities where people can actually play the game. We even play hockey in the summer......ball hockey has been getting bigger, even more so, then when I played, many decades ago, in the OBHA.

He's not small, his size won't hinder him.

Korostelev(sp?) looked poised and had quickness.... for someone we haven't heard much about he could be a sleeper.

Also thought "the Goat" looked good both ways last night, he's a forechecking nightmare for the defenders to try and handle... and he really doesn't look slow... just large.

in all seriousness - not that it mattered - how does Bitten not get a penalty on that play ... only Bibeau was penalized.

My take:

Marner is playing at half speed. Looks good out there, not great, but he doesn't have talented players to play with. He's going to be great at training camp. 200ft game, always in the right place, dishes and steals the puck like a magician. (Noticed in the interview footage he looks like he put on more muscle too.)

Kostelev, Dserkias were surprises. Looked really good.

Bracco didn't play well, even before the puck to the face....expected way more from him.

TREVOR MOORE, kid from California, SURPISED the poop out of me. Kids fast and was always in the play or creating plays. He's the dark horse to me. Watch out for this guy.

Timashov, great game and skill and vision on the ice.....playing with Moore and the Goat, the whole line was the best line in two games so far.

I liked the Goat, a lot, not sure why there is not more consensus on this guy. He had speed, forechecked, back checked, strong along the boards and middle of the ice...he seemed to do everything you would want him to do. He's like a 3rd line version of Kopitar....less talent but solid and easy player with a good defensive game.

Edit: Tobias Lindberg was the best part of the Phaneuf deal. He's another player to watch out for IMO. Like the kids scoring touch, speed, size...and he uses it too.

Don't care that he didn't because Bibeau's forearm shiver was one of the best things I have seen since Hextall.

I have a new found love for Bibeau after that.

I've always liked Lindberg, really think he can be a player. Perfect 3rd line winger. He is fast, hits has a littel edge and has offensive ability. Martin, Goat, Lindberg would be a good scoring type, fourth line next season.

Goat, is tough for me because everyone else thinks he sucks. If you look at him like a 3rd or 4th line center....I think he will be great....especially on a 4th line that has a little more scoring than fighting like mentioned above.

Moore, I'm really high on, he's got a lot of hustle and finish. Think he's playing on the Marlies. He will be one to watch and I think he will surprise for sure. If he does well there, he's a player for sure.

Not this season. Gauthier may get a call up if injuries happen

Agreed, I think he could be or will be Laich's replacement....and maybe that doesn't happen for a couple more years.

I have a feeling they will try to get Laich on a two year extension deal.
