Ottawa has been plagued with bad passing. From the breakouts to the power play, they are constantly having passes knocked down, poked or outright intercepted.

They are looking for highlight reel passing plays when they should be throwing everything at the net.

Is Bobby Ryan as bad as he looks most nights, or am I being too critical?

Dzingel has speed and hands and needs more minutes.

Ottawa as a group are too slow.

Thoughts?

Bobby Ryan has played quite well this year, but the last game wasn't his best. He has been one of our better players this year IMO. Dzingle is good and can grab higher spot but doubtful, he needs to prove he is consistent. You are bang on about the powerplay woes. I don't think Ottawa is slow, they play a style focused on defense first so that's why they don't seem to jump as much on the play. Now that the team appears to play with a defensive mentality first, they will be able as a group to start focusing on balacing defense with offense. The team is doing very well right now given the circusmtances and should play much better in the second part of the season and find success offensively. They first needed to hash down the defensive woes.. and they've done that. Next item on the list should be powerplay and then offense.

those are my thoughts.

I really hope that Methot isn't out long-term, because the only way I can see this team effectively dealing with a long-term injury would be to shift Phaneuf up to play with Karlsson. That would seriously limit the effectiveness of the 2nd pairing (Ceci-Borowiecki?), and make it awfully hard for this team to play any kind of a cohesive system while trying to rely so heavily on a single d-pairing.

Even if it is short-term (this time), it's a glimpse of exactly why I was so critical of them not going after a veteran #4/#5 defenceman... seriously, how is that NOT a priority when you've just gone through the whole Cowen/Wiercioch horror-show, and the only other quasi-established defencemen on your roster are Borowiecki and Wideman?
