Mason was terrific, the rest of the team....
Jets are a really fast team and they controlled play a lot of the game. The Flyers got some good luck tonight-a flat out bad goal for Streit and a fortuitous bounce on Simmonds' goal-but hockey's a game of luck sometimes.
I get the rationale behind benching Gostisbehere, still don't agree with the decision. Wasn't really impressed with most of the Flyer defense tonight-or the majority of the skaters, for that matter.
All that said, it's nice to see the Flyers get some positive luck for a change. |

Great to come home from the game and have my letter telling me that tomorrow I can buy my stadium series tickets. |

Balderdash! The entire Flyers team was galvanized by Ghost's scratching, outplayed Winnipeg, and showed that it was the right decision.
Honestly, I'd scratch Ghost again....how long was MDZ scratched by Berube? Whatever it was, do that. And Konecny too, since he was benched. I think this is the start of something wonderful. |

Any word on why so many scouts there? I think I saw a list of over 10 teams scouting that game somewhere. |

Manning, Raffl, Gostisbehere have been scratches at some points this season. Schenn forced to the bottom six. The problem with this is, these are difference makers. These players produce.
Cousins, Gordon, Lyubimov, MacDonald, Schultz, Weise. While some of these guys may or may not deserve to sit, it's been just over a month since the season started. From what I understand, Hakstol wants consistency but I'm seeing too many changes nightly. I can't figure out what he's trying to do or how he's expecting players to jell.
The worst part is Vandevelde is not on this list. Lyubimov in my opinion has been pretty good and even after a loss when the team needs a shake up, the kid is shafted by not being inserted into the line up. |

Do you think the team has played consistently enough to warrant the coach not making changes to the lineup, and sticking with a set lineup?

Understanding as well why the coach chose to scratch Ghost, but still don't agree with it. There are other ways besides a healthy scratch.
Great win, but now we're seeing the results again of when Mason outplays the guy on the other end. |

Exactly what I said in the old thread. Imho the biggest news from last nights game is that mase is rounding into shape. Amac needs to sit. Fumbling the puck at the blue line etc. Dear god. |

What pisses me off about AMac is that he isnt just mediocre. He is actually pretty good offensively, or at least has been in the last year or so. He does things in the offensive zone that are good for the Flyers offense. It is the rest of the ice that he is so bad at. |

He has stuck with set players in the lineup, and when your most skilled players get scratched before your least skilled players then I think people can certainly complain about the decision making |

Was thinking about this another way...
Bench VDV and he comes back motivated and still maxes out at a 4th line player.
Bench a Raffl or Ghost , they come back motivated and you see a tangible impact..

the "they come back motivated" is what is stupid. I am not going to debate what type of impact scratching a player has. I think it is different for each player, and I am confident it will not have a negative effect on Ghost. However, that statement assumes that the player needs to be motivated to go play a hockey game, and I don't put much belief in that. I think it is a soft narrative that gets overused just like "successful surgery" or "200 foot game" |

I think the Ghost and to a lesser degree the in game shift skipping of TK is Hak's attempt to curb bad habit forming in young players before they become routine.
I think proof of that is VDV....he does everything he is told and the coach knows what to expect, even if it is low ceiling impact. There may be more merit in your thought track then people want to believe. I would venture to say Hak may have even told guys on bench what to watch out for and maybe they didn't heed it or let their youthful exuberance override that and then you get a TK sitting a few shifts for Weise.
It's hard as a fan to watch, but probably is best for the long run. Deep down we all know we are still a wild card/low playoff seed type team this year, so why not get habits right for this crop of young players knowing you may have a whole new set coming in next year or two.....probably don't want a runaway train like the Oilers had been. |

Did Scotty Bowman ever scratch a player, what about Babcock or Quenville?

I don't think he needs motivation. Ghost has been struggling a bit going all the way back to the end of last season and the playoffs. Teams at this point have at least partially "figured him out" and we see that in the way they pay attention to him on the ice. They did two things, one, they adjusted to how they play him in the offensive zone and PP, and two, they started attacking his side of the ice when he is in his own zone.
IMO Ghost hasn't done a good enough job adjusting to this so far. Maybe getting a birds eye view will help him to clear his head and refocus on some changes he needs to make in his game in both zones.
So....point made, lesson learned. Get him back on the ice, he has kept AMacs seat warm enough.

If fumbling the puck at the blue line is reason to be scratched, Provorov should sit out the rest of November. |
