Penger you going to do a profile on Klim Kostin? |

So, they have a defensive coach running the team and have now added a former player who averaged 10 goals per season to run their powerplay, and he doesn't even have a good track record running powerplays. Forgive me, but this doesn't exactly inspire confidence that more goals are coming. |

Well with them retaining Stevens should have told us we wont get a fresher perspective. But I hope they prove us wrong. |

Yea, this appointment does not inspire confidence in me. I was hoping an innovative and invigorating offensive mind, possibly someone outside the box. Instead, we got what appears to be someone very inside the box. He struggled to get Calgary to produce, although they didn't have the most potent offensive roster. Thing is, neither do we... |

diff style than sutter, and not completely abandoning the team defense approach is smart if not necessary (talent pool constructed this way)...but coaxing more offense will hopefully come naturally by simply not squeezing the creativity out of the players. |

I don't believe so. I don't think he's on LA's radar at #11. Maybe if there's time near the Draft?

Yeah, on the surface, it's certainly not a very exciting hire. You guys all make good points. I'm digging deeper into Lowry's coaching past now, hopefully I'll discover something more promising.
That said, Lowry's inability to score himself in his playing career doesn't concern me. Dave Tippett ran a pretty good power play for the Kings under Andy Murray. Being excellent penalty killers, as both Lowry and Tippett were, probably give them useful insight into exploiting a PK. |

Yeah, not being a powerplay player in your career doesn't mean that you can't successfully run one or that you shouldn't be given a chance. Lowry got his chance with Calgary, though, and the results were "middling," as you put it. When Tippett got his first chance, he excelled. If Lowry had at least demonstrated the ability to score in his career, you might give him another chance, since you know that there's an innate ability in there that might eventually come out in the coaching, but it just feels like he's at two strikes now, and that doesn't inspire much confidence that he's the next Tippett. |

We can only hope he succeeds though. |
