What doesn't add up? Gusev already said he's taking a "wait and see approach" on if/when to come over. Bolts lose his rights in 2 years. And he will want some form of a guaranteed spot (which the Bolts can't/won't offer) to leave his prime KHL spot. If you were going to lose a prospect he's the one to lose.

Garrison was always getting moved, either exp draft or trade. Bolts wanted to upgrade top 4 and his spot was the one to upgrade. This isn't so much about shedding salary as it is upgrading a spot on D.

Important to remember that every team has to lose somebody. The better teams have more to lose b/c they have more talent. So you lose the player you want to jettison anyways, and in doing so move a prospect who may or may not come over and even if he does come over for Vegas it was no sure thing he was coming over for Tampa. It's better than losing Dotchin or KK

It makes sense for both sides. Vegas is looking for skill, Gusev is looking for a scoring line spot (not in the AHL). Bolts want to upgrade Garrison's spot in top 4.

I heard they worked out a deal to claim Helgeson and then trade him back to NJ with the LV 3rd rounder and take our 5th Round pick.

Saw you tweet that you think they may be avoiding people who could challenge Fleury as a starter. This would be a mistake. Over the years I think Fleury has done best with a good backup behind him that he needs to worry about. Vokoun and Murray seemed to make him play better. I have nothing tangible to back that up. Just an observation.

I'm sure they'll draft a decent backup in case of injury too. But if you're Fleury, why would you waive your NTC to share a crease with Mrazek or Raanta? I guess there's some balance McPhee is trying to strike here. It's not just BPA.

Because if he waives his NMC he gets to stay with a team with a good chance to win the cup again. It worked. Also a great team player who is willing to help the pens even if that is without him. He will retire a Penguin on a one day contract and join the front office in some capacity. That's far into the future and speculation of course.
