I like the Schenn deal, it's smart asset management. I also think there is a legit chance that Lehtera or Read are moved in a deal to bring in a goalie.
So far, I'm very happy with what the Flyers have done at the draft this year.

Lehtera a UFA in 2 years
Provorov extension in 2 years
Simmonds extension in 2 years.
Makes sense. |

Saad was able to land Panarin...
Could Schenn have done that?
Not saying I don't like the trade, I always thought Schenn could have landed more in return. I guess we won't know the value of this deal for a few years as Bill mentioned. |

I'd say Saad had "extra" value to the Blackhawks in particular, so may not be an apt comparable due to that. Personally think they did ok in the Schenn deal, but I was never that high on him either. |

Like the trade a lot. Florida got nothing for Reilly smith.
Although I saw the pick is also top 10 protected in 2019?
Schenn never found solid ground here outside the pp |

This a positive spin on the deal. It will help in a couple of years, but someone has to pick up the scoring deficit, especially on the power play 2nd unit. I'm hoping for a dark horse to arise |

Not estatic or upset about the trade. Good asset management, but we won't know for a few years who the winner is. Schenn's PPwork might be tough to replace, but outside of that I think is play is replaceable. And who knows, maybe with the new PP coach Schenn's role wouldn't be as important. |

I doubt it. From what I heard Toewes and Kane had expressed that they missed Saad and his grit to Bowman. They specifically wanted him back. Remember, he was part of 2 Chicago cup teams. |

It's sort of top 10 protected. If top 10, the Blues have the choice to keep the pick, but if they do, we get their 2019 1st with no protection and a 2020 3rd.

legit chance means that if there is a deal made to bring back a goalie with significant salary for 1 or 2 years, then Read or Lehtera will likely be included in the deal to offset the cost.
edit: You really needed that explained to you? |

They could end up going back to a more traditional 3F 2D setup (Ghost/Provorov) for the #1 unit. Maybe Provorov could essentially "replaces" him on the first unit at least. |

There are a lot of possibilities, especially with a new pp coach coming in. Outside of Giroux, Simmonds and Ghost being on the top unit, I don't think anything is set in stone.

I haven't been around much in the past, so you guys may have discussed... but what constitutes a "franchise" player? What is this tag that Nolan is supposedly never going to attain? Is franchise only reserved for Crosby, Malkin, McDavid, Matthews? What about guys like Kopitar, Getzlaf, Bergeron? Are they "franchise" players or no? |

What makes you think any team wants those players? I assume you may mean Dallas; if not them then what team? Why would they take on lehtera? Wouldn't it be more prudent for them to retain $$ in a trade or buy one out instead of an overpriced lehtera?
Read is more feasible. |

Dallas looks like they need D and they must get rid of one goalie.
It would be nice to deal AMac for Niemi. I doubt it would happen, but Dallas does seem like a trade partner today ..

I can only speak for myself, but I look at a franchise players as being dominant 1st line forwards and #1 Dmen. The guys who win Hart and Norris trophies and unless careers are cut short by injury, they are 1st ballot hall of famers when their careers end.

Wait and see approach about Schenn deal. Thrilled with Patrick.. I will say this. The core needed a change. This group just didn't get it done.. Wouldn't be upset to see more done today with regards to moving another big piece. |
