Sakic signing bernier was a horrid idea! |
|
|
|
I like the moves, Bernier played well when Gibson was hurt last year and Wilson provides depth and experience for the bottom two lines. Good job Joe. |

Seriously, does Joe Sakic realize there are actual NHL defensemen available right now? Alexi Emelin for a 3rd round pick? Kyle Quincey for peanuts?
I mean yeah, these guys are not the Hockey Fairy Godmothers that will magically fix everything, but come on. You have 4 D men signed and you can't shut up about shipping one out of town. Didn't Mark Methot go for like a 4th rounder??? Do SOMETHING. I'm a Hawks fan but NOBODY enjoys watching this team suffer. |

It's a one year deal, if he plays poorly Spencer Martin can come the following year. Low risk signing |

Sakic wasn't going to overpay, other than Shattenkirk there weren't too many big names out there on D. The Avs have a lot of kids in their system that are worth putting in there.

Low risk now and when varlamov goes out with an injury because you know he will then we're screwed because than we suck on defense and we're on goal! |

Do you have prospects that are better players now than Emelin or Methot? For such a low cost to the organization I'm just baffled. I mean, even Nashville, with their "glorious" blueline, went out and upgraded (for a very reasonable cost). |
|
|
|
Nashville did a great job upgrading their blueline, no doubt. We have upgraded our D because Gelinas, Wiercoch, Beauchemin and Tyutin are no longer here. Addition by subtraction. Don't get me wrong I'd love Methot but he wants to go to a contender. We have Bigras, Mironov, Lindholm waiting to get into the lineup. Siemens is serviceable as well. I really wanted Del Zotto but that didn't pan out |
|
|
|
Well I definitely don't keep up with your farm system so I really can't compare the prospects to available vets. I can just say that there definitely isn't a lot of love being spread around that I've heard. But man, I'm hoping that you guys take a big step forward one way or another this year, no one should have to suffer that kind of pain from your favorite team.
Good luck guys! |

Avs need quality over quantity. They have plenty of younger guys trying to make they're way into the lineup and someone like Quincey will just get in the way like a lot of the signings they made the last few years. Committing to the younger players is the way to go. If it turns out none of them are ready, there are always bottom pairing Dmen available for trade or even in waivers. |

you know in a couple weeks Vegas is going to need to unload some of their D to get to the right number to ice a roster. I think then is when we'll pick up someone. hopefully not at the expense of a high pick or anything. perhaps Vegas will have to waive a guy?
I know people want to see action and Sakic "do something" but good things come to those that wait. because seriously what is the point of signing these loose defensemen that are available if you net a great one or two in a trade for Duchene? then you guys will all be after him for not being smart enough to factor that in. I think Sakic is doing an adequate job thus far, especially given the criticism he's getting for lack of movement even though he was honest and said they wouldnt be major players in free agency and as this article points out, he's done just that. I think thats what you want in a GM right? to not only be accountable to their word, but also learn from past mistakes. and thats just what the case is here as its the first offseason w/o Roy's influence. so I think Sakic deserves some credit for doing things his way. |

Deej,
Ryan Murray, who is easily a top 4 or top pairing d-man in 25 teams in the league has been sitting there for months waiting to get traded to the Avs. Columbus can make up a good package for Duchene, but your GM thinks he can wait until someone overpays so much they cut off their nose to spite their face to get him. It isn't happening.
So you GM sits there and watches his trade value shrink every day. Is that what you want?

If Ryan Murray is the centrepiece of a trade for Duchene then Joe is right in holding out for more. |

Would rather see Carlo from the Bruins , or Hanifin from the Canes.
But in any case, yes he needs to pull the trigger this coming week if
multiple offers are being delivered. It's dragging on for sure! |

Mcavoy > Carlo. I like hanifin but would sooner see Pesce. Just based on what he brings |

guy.... gimme Werenski or gtfo I want that dood back and playing under Bednar and winning cups w the Av's!!! you can keep your subpar Murray. to be honest I dont even think Cbus has a chance here, I think they're being used as leverage to get Carolina to pull the trigger on a Hanifin trade already. just make w the goods Ronny Franchise and make your fanbase happy and give your team what it needs which is a good first line center |

The fact that anybody in Colorado thinks you're getting a Hanafin or Werenski tier player for Duchene is part of the problem. |

Werenski should continue to be untouchable. Hanifin for Duchene is a good price. |

BSN found something out last night that made it seem like they think Duchene won't be moving anymore. A couple of weird tweets from Aj Haefle and Adrian Dater about him coming back. |

I think AJs tweet was hes sick of the over reaction of Avs fans on twitter bombering him with the fire sakic takes.
Dater was more of nothing is in the cooker right now (which isnt shocking since its July 4th now)
In my mind, the combo of the 2 is just chill out Avs fans, dont freak out every day that goes by. Lots of stuff in the cooker and in motion.
