To summarize Victoros unrealistic trade list

Cogliano - Isn't even a C
Berglund - Solid 3c option but 5x3.85m is bad
Sobotka - Highly doubt the Blues brought him back from the K to trade him for garbage
Staal -
Coyle - Barely played C last season
Koivu - 6.75m
Bozak - Makes no sense for TOR
Bjugstad - Makes no sense for FLA
Backlund -
Bennett -

Hockey is visual fun All the stats really suck. If you can see it, it is fun to watch. If you want spread sheets and computer work, get a job as a bean counter.

Since when is Hornqvist garbage?

Cogs plays center. He play a all forward positions, just primarily wing.

Bjugstad's not very good.

Not a Berglund fan but the fact that he's not great value is why he's realistic.

Pretty sure Sobatka had to sign with St Louis. Why would St Louis say no to an asset that just costs cap space?

Koivu only has one year of term. We can fit that cap hit for a year.

Calgary has atrocious RW depth and Backlund only has a year of term. If they believe in Bennett, then that's a possibility we probably add. If they don't believe in Bennett then why isn't he realistic? We probably add too.

I can see how Bozak makes no sense due to TO forward depth, but value's there so I threw it out

Hornqvist has 1 year left. Kills his value. Cogliano has take 111 total faceoffs the last 4 seasons...

You have to realize none of the assets you are looking to move are that valuable.

Half the people I named half one year left on contract which is why I pointed them out, and several others are not good value that aren't valuable themselves.

And the guys with 1 year left all have superior value to Hornqvist/Hagelin...

How does Cogliano with one year left have more value than Hornqvist with one year left? Or Bozak? I'll give you Backlund and maybe Koivu. Like I said this isn't Hornqvist straight up for player X.

Cogliano - More versatile player and has never missed a game in his career
Bozak - Center>Winger
Backlund - An absolute beast
Koivu - Center>Winger

What are you adding to your package to make it worthwhile for the other team? I feel like this is the major point you are missing.

One of my favorite charts he produces is the shot charts after a game is completed. It is easy to read and gives a nice snapshot of how players performed on the possession front each game

Is this not intrinsically linked to NHL.com providing correct statements on shots happening? But NHL.com is suspect if not outright garbage. Unless the contention is that he and others verify the shots by watching the video after each game (which is insane in terms of time/effort/money/profit).

For some of them a high round pick. For others the values even. I'm at work right now, but I'll come back afterwards when I'm on my computer and stat rat back and forth with you because I think you're greatly overestimating how much more valuable some of these guys are than Hornqvist

From last blog

Off the top of my head, teams that are in win now mode who have gold center depth with the targetable center(s) in parentheses:

Anaheim (Cogliano)
St. Lewis (Berglund, Sobatka)
Minnesota (Staal, Koivu, Coyle)
Toronto (Bozak)
Florida (Bjugstad)
Calgary (Backlund, Bennett)
Lightning (Point)

Out of those, I think the Minnesota ones are the most unlikely (especially Coyle), and I don't think the cap would work for Tampa. But those are some pretty realistic targets just off the top of the old noggin. I'm not claiming that any of those guys would be Hornqvist for X player straight up, but I think there could be deals there with either them or us adding.

Also, keep in mind that Rutherford said that if he really wanted to he could pull the trigger right now and that the trades he's looking at involve moving roster players. Our three moveable roster players with value enough to be the center of a 3C trade are Hornqvist, Hagelin, and Maatta. Hornqvist and Hagelin are win now pieces, so unless Ruth is talking about Olli, which is, granted, posable, it looks like there's matches out there.

- Victoro311

Thanks for the list, appreciate you came with examples.

I just don't see the value matching up for most of those guys. Alot of them you probably have to trade Sheary for, not Hornqvist. Bjugstad and Bennett only are moved if their teams really soured on them. Cogliano is the one name that sticks out as fair value, but they have Perry as a net front guy already.

St. Louis and Calgary make sense as teams who need RWs, just don't see the value as a match. St. Louis guys both have term while Calgary really isn't deep at center either if they trade one of those two.

@T Train

I don't really disagree woth anything you said except that Hornqvist has the value to go big at 3C. I feel the names being thrown around are more likely for a guy like Rust or Maatta, and in some cases it would take Sheary. If someone offers a good 3C for Hornqvist by all means take it. I just feel with one year on his deal you're getting just a decent 3C and probably a downgrade from Bonino. Not worth it to me.
