Great column. As a Hawks fan, I thought Chevy was really trying to live off his acquisitions of former Hawks, including the above mentioned Byfuglien plus Ladd plus Frolik and later Dano plus a 1st rounder. That's a lot of scavenging of his former employer.
I think it's somewhat on him. What boss gets a 7 or 8 year window to turn around a business ?

He came in saying he was going to build through the draft and he's done that. That takes time. His picks of Scheifele, Laine, Ehlers, Trouba, Morrisey and hopefully Connor are now starting to contribute and take over the team.
People don't see what a mess the Jet farm team was when they first arrived in Winnipeg. It was pathetic.
However it's time to start seeing something now. This is a big year for Chevy and the organization. A .915 team save percentage (league average) and improved special teams get them competing for a playoff spot. IMHO that starts with the coach. The talent is there, so if they struggle again early Maurice has to go.
