Most likely bringing him in to create some competition in training camp among the prospects, if the Devils feel players like McLoed, Speers and Quenneville need another year of development I could see him making the team and playing bottom 6 minutes |

What about Miles Wood? Is he a lock this year... or is he on the bubble as well? |

I'd be surprised if MW wasn't on the opening night roster. Not sure I'd call him a lock but he's not a bubble player. Coaches liked him too much last year to disregard him very quickly.
On a side note, Go Thunderbirds! |

Sweeney will give up a 3rd and a 5th to reacquire Hayes at the deadline...book it.

He has the frame you'd want, but doesn't quite use it to his advantage.
I remember in Chicago, his role was to hang around the net and use his size to screen/distract the goalie and stand his ground against Defensemen trying to push him out of the way and try to pick up rebounds. It never quite worked out here, though.
I think Florida was his best display of what he could do and he played well there.
Hopefully he finds that game again in NJ. |

I keep walking back on this, but I would have liked to see Sweeney keep Stafford around for $800k. Would have been good insurance for the younger guys, and worst case scenario is someone he could have moved him at the deadline. |

Probably wont see Sweeney do anything until a week before preseason starts. Its summer time, he is on vacation and he is too rich to care.
So if we are looking for Draft Day Don to do anything, I'm sure he would make this face.
Or this one.....

Part of me would have liked to see Stafford get another shot with the Bruins. With the young talent coming up, he probably would have been have played out of a spot, but the guy did score timely goals down the stretch. I haven't looked up his number but his goals to ice time ratio when on the Bruins was probably quite good. I guess his main issue is that he doesn't pass the eye test with his skating. Sort of lumbers around the ice, and guys like Bjork, Debrusk, and Cehalrik have a spark to their game that will leave a guy like Stafford in the dust. That's assuming one or more of those three make the big club, which is still a big if. |

Completely agree. I know everyone says the game is getting faster, but Stafford was producing at just under .5 PPG in such a small sample size. I think a full year alongside Krejci would give them some chemistry that they seemed to already connect on briefly. He crashed the net a bit too, in a way reminded me of how Horton and Lucic played for Krejci. I know this opens the door for rookie presence, but if BJork and JFK don't break out, I really think we will be missing a proven veteran to fill out the top 6. Not every team can be the Penguins and slot in a GUentzel or sheary and have them break out. Hopefully Bjork or maybe Vatrano can be slotted with Berg and March and do that. |

Much agreed. These are good points and I think a "show me" deal with Stafford could have been a good insurance policy if the kids don't pan out the way we hope they will. |
