I think San Jose grade a bit generous as a mid round pick over boedker wasn't worth it and I disagree about methot... as gm use more and more advanced stats it shows he was propped up by karlson. The return was good. 1st yonder was highly unlikely

Re: Boedker, you think he's worth more than a fifth-rounder right now? Not so sure about that. I often lean toward gambling bigger, but Boedker could just as well continue to flop and depreciate in value. So I understand the safe bet here. However, maybe a D grade might have been in order.

Re: Methot, I don't disagree that playing with Karlsson helped him a lot. But my analysis is more about how he's perceived around the league. I think if he holds up well in Vegas, he's getting a first-rounder. If he collapses without Karlsson, as you suggest he will, then yea, great to get under from that with a second rounder + prospect.

I think the knights lost big time with the jets. Marko Dano is more valuable than what they got imo

its not like boedker was gonna hurt them on the cap... I see the risk of him being a 20+ goal scorer, 5o point guy is smaller than the risk of the 5th rounder developing into an nhl player.

I don't think methot has a great rep around the league. most gm's use the advanced stats now and they show methot makes all other d men he played with worse. he is a middle pair d man at best and not a great one... a first MIGHT have happened if you got a bidding war going at the deadline... but then you have to drag him around all season and hope he doesn't get hurt. and lose another d man to bargain shopping or waivers.

I really liked what McPhee did for the most part... but I cannot figure out the draft pick years. I would have stood firm for picks in 17 and 18... not 19 and 20. that's the only thing McPhee did that doesn't make a lot of sense to me...

Think you're right about the San Jose grade, I'm going to change it.

Regarding the draft pick years, I wonder if teams weren't as willing to offer high picks in 17-18 or if McPhee wanted to space out his picks over the next few years.
