It made sense for him to sign there. He would have been a depth AHL guy in most organizations and this gives him an opportunity to play where he most likely wouldn't anywhere else. Still would have been nice to get one of these college guys! |

I never even opened the book.
If he signed, so be it. Since he didn't sign with the Sabres, so be it.
Onto the season! |

Sabres landed a few college guys over the past few years and don't forget, Antipin was a free agent the Sabres landed...
I hoped they'd get him too...anytime you can land talent for free, it's not a bad thing...

So what's left to do now? Watch the Bills' poop-show, keep one eye on the Duchene situation (yawn), and wait till training camp?
Thankfully we have Pach and his superb write-ups to keep us going. Nice job! |

On to the season. Nights are getting colder, September is here and it's time for some hockey
I cannot wait to see the new look D, which Butcher couldn't have been a part of this year anywat |

can't remember who posted this from Robin Lehner, but it deserves a re-post: “I had no problems with the defensemen, but the problem was we really didn't know how to play. It's not just the defensemen, that's a common misconception, it's how we play as a team.”
and,
“If you watched the Stanley Cup Playoffs last year all the good teams like Pittsburgh, everyone defends, everyone comes back and everyone plays as a five-man unit and its fast forward and fast back to the defensive zone and I think that's what Phil wants. He doesn't want us to play slow, he wants to play fast and everyone attacks and everyone defends and we didn't do that last year.” |

Magnanimous of him, for sure. But we couldn't have played that system effectively with the 3 guys not in the top 6 this year. I'm also higher than most on Bogo, I think he has 7-10 goals in him in this system |

However Shero's defense corps took a hit, especially with the loss of Adam Larsson, who went to the Oilers in the Hall deal, and were in desperate need of talent. The Devils defense corps is anchored by two aged veterans in captain Andy Greene and Ben Lovejoy and outside of Steve Santini, who will be returning for his sophomore campaign, flux seems to be the operative word in New Jersey. It's something that seemed rather appealing to the Butcher camp

Well that is that. I am glad that we at least were in the discussion. I would rather swing and miss then not swing at all. Our D-corps can't be any worse then last year and hopefully Housley can take what we have and make it "Average" I think if we are even marginally better on D then last year we are a playoff team. We can score and our PP was tops in the league. if the goalies are not facing 40-50 shots a game we should win more games. |

I agree with that, but Bylsma at least could have adapted his system, at least a little bit |

I had an irrational hatred for Bailey's old number, good change. Baptiste too |

The Foligno sluts aren't going to like that his number is given away already
Also Marcus is wearing his dads number with the wild which I think is cool |
