I like the new blood. Dauphin, Wingles and Bouma bring some needed edge. |

I know JJ has been kinda hyping this player and I am cautiously optimistic he's going to live up to that billing. The effort he plays with is undeniable and he's replacing a guy in Krugs who simply played one way: With all he had. Honestly, if Kruger didn't play with the heart and courage he did play with he probably wouldn't have ever made the NHL, but his intelligence and tenacity has turned him into a damn solid NHL player...I think similar could be the trajectory for Dauphin. |

Add that 4th line (maybe Kero plays some wing in Bouma place) to a 3rd line of Sharp-AA-Hartman and you have a much improved, faster, tougher to play against bottom 6. |

Good analysis, JJ. I look forward to seeing what Dauphin can do in camp.

Let us just hope ANYONE plays in Bouma's place. |

Well don't want to get out to far over the Ski's on this guy , 29 games on a bad team sounds a little like the Dano hype from a few years ago . But we shall see , I hope for the best because young players is the way to go .. |

Totally different type of player than Dano, different role, different style |

Would be nice if Dauphin does earn a job and plays well. Always nice to have guys who are putting the effort in and can win battles. |

For those of you hoping for more toughness in the game:
Brian Hedger @BrianHedger
Murphy on his physicality: "For me it’s almost like trying to make a new team and trying to make impressions on what your strengths are."
"I felt bad a couple times. I caught [Saad] yesterday. It was not smart."
"You don’t want to be hurting your own teammates, but you want to show what you can bring or you’ll be on the outside looking in " |

Good thought ... maybe scary for the oppostion .... Wingels also seems to have that motor that does not quit. Could work out on same line really good |

tbf, Frolik didn't show much skill as a Hawk. He was pretty much overpaid until his final season with the Hawks when he filled a PK and bottom 3 role fairly well. Even then there wasn't much in the way of offensive skill on display except for an occasional flash. |

"I think it’s easy—too easy frankly—to base your assessments on points, +/-, or even Corsi taken out of context to any degree. The eye test matters as much or more."
Amen JJ. Hopefully Dauphin can be an effective PK bottom 6 C for the Hawks this year. If the Hawks can acquire Duchene, that would make the 9 Forward Group as lethal as it's been in years. |

Come on now stop on the Duchene talk already. We'd have to give up way too much and then be back in salary cap hell again. Let Sakic play his game with Columbus or Nashville and get that young stud dman he craves. Good luck with that !! As bad as I wanted him last year.....now I don't think he's worth it. |

You can perhaps make a case, a pro vs con arguement for one player or another to make a bottom line, a third pair defense, a depth extra player.
It seems rather obvious that with Samuelson coaching, Bowman and Q should want Kempny to make the team. They know he can offer a lot, as he is a good skater and has some nastiness quite admired and appreciated in his place in lineup. Early camp mistakes in scrimmages are really only a concern if they keep happening through the last exhibition games.
If out of camp no deals yet then you have to think management is going to feel do we feel good about our bottom few dmen and fourth line guys. If so maybe one surprise could stick around. And I do not reference ADB here. There are forwards with experience so I would guess they say, let ADB go to Rockford for a while.
I feel strongly that Bouma and Tootoo represent depth more than anything. They are players who substitute for another fringe player or play when there is an injury. A good camp by Hayden and Dauphin earns them an opportunity. Just like Q is concerned about his job and therefore wants a very good start in the season, he will actually give those two young guys some shifts to continue to show their grit. And Hino has to start here too if he just plays so well they cannot return him to Rockford.
I say Jurco needs to be worried. I would love to see Jurco be Hossa light but I just do not know if he has it in his mind and is his health preventing his elite skill to surface. As for the last two spots, well Franson is in, Stuart is a big question mark. Does he replace Rozy unyil Rozy returns from concussion? Since Franson, Murphy and Kempny right now does not elicit a ton of confidence, you think the last spot goes to someone they feel is more trustworthy to not make mistakes and whom if he can move the puck well then all the better.
Sounds like that should be Gus. But Forsling has to stick or he might go back to Sweden. Hmm, Snuggerud not ready, ditto Press. Dahlstrom and Ruuta would be surprises; if Ruuta excels in Rockford he gets the call and someone up here will sit. |

My thought on that is, would Salic go so far as to trade two of his top players if after the second trade he reels in the young, experienced dman he so badly needs and covets.
Because Sakic might try to unearth Hartman in a deal for Duschesne, then with a Hartman type he has someone who plays with an edge and whom scores enough. So Sakic then trades Landeskog straight up for not Hamonic, but tries for Dumba or Trouba. Both Winnipeg and Minny probably take flight to new height if they add Landeskog to their forward mix. Both those teams might be better able now to withstand the loss of a dman of high regard.
Remember when the bold Keenan traded for Chelios. It takes balls to trade a top player yet everyone knows Sakic has dug himself into a hole. This is his way out.
Salic should try offering extra if he has to, so far as obtaining the dman. The Avalanche has two dmen whom I feel fit in nicely in the right role. E Johnson on second pair. That offense from Barrie in a third pairing. Their dmen fall into place much like it has been for most years when in Chicago Keith was healthy and playing well enough. |

Well , they are going to spend the Hossa $ on someone . I'll take 55% at the dot and a hell of a lot of skill .

JJ is daupin be better off as a winger with that has all that speed and willingness to get on the forecheck and win board battles or as a center u mention only 48% on faceoffs would have to really work that part of his game in camp i would think if going to be projected as a center |

I seriously doubt the Hawks will even come close to landing Duchene. That's not to say Stan hasn't inquired, but I just can see a deal of this magnitude between division rivals. Plus, I don't see Chicago having the type of assets Sakic would want in return. On the flip side, is Duchene really worth it? Is he really worth giving up the team's young talent (some of which is legit) when there's not that much of it? |

A chunk will go to Franson, likely $1-$2 million. Keep in mind that Duchene puts the Hawks in a tough position next season as they don't start the season with Hossa on the LTIR. |

Where are people getting Forsling would go back to Sweden? I was under the impression that his euro clause had a time limit, which he hit last season, and then he could be sent wherever the Hawks wanted, which is how they were able to send him to Rockford after a while. Otherwise, he would have gone back to Sweden then. I remember Kempny's clause was for the whole season and he could only play in the NHL.
What we don't know is if Rutta has a euro clause; or if he does, if it's like Forslings or Kempny's. |

Man, such a waste to pay Franson anything close to $2m. It needs to be able to be buried or really close. |
