Carol Schram: Golden Knights come up aces in 9-4 preseason opener over baby Canucks Brock Boeser's two goals were a bright spot as a young Vancouver Canucks team dropped a 9-4 decision to the Vegas Golden Knights in their preseason home opener on Sunday.

Granlund is the only clear cut trade Benning won. Sutter Gudbrandson and Sven are a wash so far .

The rest we will see

I think enough time has passed to really assess the Kesler trade.

Gone: Kesler and a third-round pick in the 2015
For: Nick Bonino, Luca Sbisa and Anaheim's 1st (Jared McCann) and 3rd in 2014.

If my calculations are correct:
Bonino (with a 2nd) is gone for Sutter
Sbisa gone due to expansion
McCann (with a 2nd) gone for Gud
Anaheim's 3rd gone for Dorsett

So essentially Kesler, two 2nds, and a 3rd for Sutter, Gud, and Dorsett.

That's a bad one.

In fairness to JB he was handcuffed on that deal.

I guess it depends how you look at it. We still have Sutter who was in the top 5 in scoring last year and Bonino now plays for someone else.

You have to look back and people were screaming to get rid of the slug Bonino. Playing with Sid and Gino can make a third line center look much better.

Gudbrandson will probably be traded this year so we won't know what the piece is until we put a name on the jersey.

Sorry I like Dorsett. It's a bloody shame that a guy that size has to fight everyones battle.

Kesler gave us one team so coming out of it with Sutter Gudbrandson and Dorsett, I will take that any day for a self loving piece of sh1t cancer like Kesler

Kesler is still one of my favorite Canucks.

It was a tough spot for JB but at the end of the day it wasn't a great return. I blame Gillis more than Benning though for not getting a good enough return.

I agree with Vantel's original statement, Granlund has been the only clear win as far as trades go when just looking at players.

I do think the Burrows trade also should be seen as a win regardless of how the prospect turns out.

'Real Good' player but a complete douche as a person. His antics on the ice were getting tiresome and embarrassing as well. Natural born loser. No cups for that clown.

Just read the blog now CS . Good stuff. I thought Holm would struggle to be an AHL Dman .

I expect big things from Chatfield this year I expect him to be the stud of the comets and I think Stewart will also be good for the comets this year.

Goes to show how misleading stats can be, as Subban was by far the worst defenseman on the ice followed by Holm, yet others had"worse" stats than those 2 ECHL fodder.

Yup, Holm and Subban were by far the worst in my opinion

Bloated your calculations are slightly wrong, as well as your adding Sbisa taken in expansion in the wrong tone. First we got a 3rd back with Sutter. The difference was 7 spots in the draft. Sutter is also better than bonino. Losing Sbisa to the expansion is not a fault on the Kessler trade, we had to lose someone. Many teams lost more than we did by a long shot.

I think the two obvious loses were a second for Vey and Clendenning for Forsling

Yes, both bad trades. It's funny because Benning was praised for the Vey trade originally

Both were smart moves at the time. They just didn't turn out.

What's really really funny... It was our own pick that we traded away when we sent Alexandre Mallet from the Islanders.

canucks are a circus.

At the time Pedan was worth the 3rd. He could still become a decent bottom pairing guy.
