I’ll be the first to admit to ragging on Sakic for his handling of this, but he scored a good return. Good prospects, good picks, no established talent though so it will take a while to see how this helps the Avs.

But he got a lot of potential.

I really thought Ekholm was going to Colorado on this deal but they did well. At least 3 good prospects and 3 high picks

Sakic deserves some major credit here. This is a massive return with an insane amount of potential. The transition to youth and speed seems to be going very well for us and is a perfect style for today's NHL. This is a very impressive, forward thinking trade by Sakic that demonstrates levels of genius. With all the pressure from fans, media, and players he still was able to pull off a trade that includes 7 assets for a player whose contract expires next year.

Sakic's goal though was supposed to get a promising top D as well. Haven't heard any scouts saying that about Girard. Let's hope the picks can change that, otherwise you might be in a very long 2nd rebuild.

I think Mackinnon, Rantanen, Jost, Compher, Makar, Timmins, Gerard and still having Landeskog, Barrie, Johnson and Varlamov will be a pretty smooth transition for this "rebuild"

And despite all of that, there's still no guarantee of a successful top pair D. I like Colorado and their fans. I just don't see it yet.

That's totally fair for sure. Johnson is great for us now but I don't think he'll be in his prime by the time this team can be truly competitive. Not a top defensemen. It remains to be seen but at this point with all the defensive troubles we've had the past few years it's nice to see players like Girard, and Makar at least have a shot at becoming a top D. It's also nice to see a little bit of depth

while none of those pieces will be as good as Duchene, combined, they can outweigh that loss.

Look forward to package deals at the draft. Either to move up or to get higher end AHL prospects than the current crop.

Decent trade for Colorado but man, did it ever take a long time.

perhaps. but none of them will be as much of a distraction as Duchene was and likely give way more effort than Duchene displayed last season.

“He didn’t want to be with the Colorado Avalanche anymore,” veteran defenseman Erik Johnson said. “He didn’t want to play with the team. The guys in the room were waiting for it to happen too. We all want to play for this team and win in Denver. He wanted to go somewhere else. Now we have a group in this room that will all be pulling the same rope in the same direction. Hopefully that means a lot more wins.”

Huh..so essentially the sens..gave up turris.. 2 1sts..and hamond and a 3rd. .for Duchene! ..for 2 seasons. .then he'll get 7.5ish×8..at least he'll be asking for that term..then probably settle for 7×7.5. He'll get more then ryan! And turris is a 50pt guy with 27 goals last year. .and just signed for less. .in your guys opinion is duchene ..THAT much better than turris? It just seems a lot to give for two seasons! Is duchene marginally better? ..and Sakic did franking awesome! ..I just mentioned what he got from the sens! ..then the haul from the Preds! ..👏👏👏👏👍

Yes I can't judge the difference between Turris & Duchene, but it seems extreme for the Sens. It's fine for the Preds, & for Sakic there's a huge ? On what the players will become. The picks will most likely be late so I can see him packing those up & trading them for something else. Just looks like a Preds win here by a reasonable amount.

I agree the Preds got the best value in this deal, but the winner IMO is the next GM that gets his team 16W in the playoffs - Duchene helps Ottawa with that - Turris certainly helps the Preds with that. The preds did loose neal for nothing - hope sens can get him somehow

What this trade netted for CO it lacks in quality but makes up in quantity.

I do not get what Ott is thinking here. Pretty big loss in picks. Good they could dump Hammond.

Nashville the silent winner here, gets an underrated 1/2 center good for 55+ points and all without losing anything in the core.

However CO did the unthinkable and robbed another team for a trade win.

Ok I have been on the front line of ripping Sakic, but I will admit that he did well here, and it good be very well if picks pan out, a 1,2,and a 3 plus, did a little digging here is a scouting report on Samuel Girard....
A flashy offensive defenceman who takes advantage of opportunities and is always looking to make an impact each shift. Works very hard and isn't afraid to play the body. Skates with exceptional exuberance and fluidity. Accurate release on his shot and a good eye for open passing lanes. Proactive defensively and puts the pressure on the opposition. Needs to have a more active stick and a more felt presence in shooting lanes, but he has shown a willingness to learn, and these skills will develop. All-in-all, an exciting offensive defenceman who displays noteworthy offensive and defensive instincts.
On Kamenev from end of last season.....
Regression struck Kamenev’s scoring pace after a great first half. He dropped to 0.65 point per game pace, which is almost the same as he had the previous season. However he did play 13 more games and managed to score six more goals this season. Biggest change in stats is the plus-minus- It jumped from minus-5 to plus-11

I think we all know about Hammond and I'm sure your local burger joints will be thrilled if he should find his way up and get some regular time, but at this point I think he slides in as # 3 on your depth charts.

So a young D, a young F and an AHL goalie with possible upside for more, plus 3 picks, yes Sakic did well, I will admit it, so lets see how long term pans out.

On a final note I would like to thank JS for doing the trade during the game and shortening your bench we needed the 2 points!

so let me get this straight.....

you praise nashville for getting a 1/2 center without giving up any of their core...while at the same time criticize ottawa for getting a better center and not giving up any of their core?

turris would have been moved at the TDL regardless, and it would have been for something much worse than what they just got.

If Duchene got just the picks I would've been like, yeah that is about right since the situation was a mess...Sakic got 4 players too

The issue seems to be how much better is Dueche then Kyle? If you were building a team would you take Kyle and the pile of picks and prospects or Dueche?
