Carol Schram: Jacob Markstrom stars, Vancouver Canucks beat Flames to start 4-game trip Jacob Markstrom kept them in the game, then the Vancouver Canucks got goals from five different players as they kicked off their four-game road trip with a win over the Calgary Flames.

Gotta pick up all the wins we can before Edler and Eriksson come back and send us rolling downhill

I am definitely curious how the team will look if/when everyone is healthy again.

Pouliot IMO deserves to keep playing, and the harder choice up front is who gets put on waivers

To me burmistrov seems like the odd man out. He has been okay, puts in effort, but he hasn't done anything to really make a strong impression.

Who comes out on D if Pouliot stays in though? I can't imagine Green will scratch Gudbranson, so i guess that would point to Hutton? I cant see that happening considering the minutes he's playing

Thanks Carol, always a pleasure to read your stuff.

Not sure if the stats guys are going to like your defense of Gudbranson, it doesn't fit the narrative of how bad he apparently is.😆

He definitely isnt flashy, and I wouldnt mind rotating him in and out, but with Gaunce now back they have to send someone to Utica and I dont think the guy ranked 8th in points per game is the one. Definitely will be interesting

Im not sure, Stecher maybe? Hutton seems to be getting far too many minutes to relegate him to press box

I've been thinking about this for awhile...

Working on the assumption that Travis likes to keep his lefties & righties in place, it's easy to assume that Biega will come out on the right side when Stecher comes back. So Gudbranson should be safe.

As steady as Pouliot has been, he has to be the guy on the left who comes out when Edler comes back. As MDZ says in that Westender piece, he and Hutton have picked up the slack while Edler has been out. They've done it well.

Aparently Green is pretty particular about having his defensemen play to their handedness, otherwise i could see Stecher sitting until Pouliot stops impressing.

I wonder if Gaunce could clear waivers, with the team clicking it would make sense to keep the forward group intact

Barring any further injuries to the defense, I could see Stecher being sent down on a conditioning stint.
It would allow some time for another injury to occur and Pouliot looks like he could adapt quite nicely to playing on right side.

Definitely the most plausible outcome. Pouliot's powerplay abilities are part of the reason I thought it might be a tougher decision. He looks very smooth and moves the puck decisively on that kid unit. Hutton/Edler/MDZ bring a different dynamic that was largely ineffective earlier IMO

And half of those shots barely made it to the net. I swear my nephew in bantams has twice the shot Hank has.

As much as I loved the wins over WSH and PIT.... a statement game against a divisional opponent is so much better.

I can only assume Calgary will dress an-all-goon lineup next time.

Probably a good nickname for him considering EP has better numbers in a better league

But seriously, Dahlen should either be in the AHL or SHL by January(I believe that's when he has an out clause with Timra)

I like the idea of just having Gaunce and Burmistrov rotate in and out depending on matchups. Once Eriksson is back, things will really get interesting(unless another injury occurs by then which is entirely possible).

Either way it's okay, at least he's putting up points.
