Great blog Steve - first off the Miller ceremony was great - true class for a great guy.
Ducks 2nd and 3rd lines were better than Kings but Kopitar and co. dominated the 1st line matchup - what was Perry doing all night and RR was ghost as well, 15 was ok, he had that 2x1 where he misses the net from 10' out with no one around ... just can't have that. then he got caught puck watching on Kopi's goal - Kopi's line just killed it last night.
Beauch was horrific as well - he and Cam really struggled all night.
42-47 might have to play 27+ min a night for this team to make playoffs -
JG was pretty solid - it was a good solid win and best part ROW without the 3 pt night. the Avs are going to be a real bear tomorrow -

If cogs is suspended which I doubt he will be. It shouldn't stop his Ironman streak. It isn't like he actually got injured. Here's to hoping its just a fine and his streak lives on. |

He just got 2 games! It shouldn’t matter whether there’s an injury if he’s targeting the head which he was! |

He's been suspended for 2 games and it officially ends the streak. It's a joke if you ask me. |

The next time any player does such a hit they better get 2 games. No more fines for players at this point. And the ironman streak should really only pertain to ones health. |

I agree the Ironman streak should remain.

Such a rare stream to be this long. Sucks to be ruined by a suspension. Esp a health based stat. |

Horrible decision. Parros is no longer welcome at the Honda Center. |

One thing Im curious about is. Has Cogs been fined before in the past? |

Terrible decision on the suspension.
That cap hit is a bit high though. |

No. Not that I can determine. Nothing noted in any of his hockey history. |

That's quite possibly the lamest way ever for an iron-man streak to end. This was a rivalry game. Emotions were high. Both players were skating in a similar direction, and it looked like Cogs had his mind made up to follow through with the check.
To be fair, the Department of Player Safety has made it clear that hits to the head will not be tolerated. I guarantee this was talked about extensively throughout the department. A tough call, but that's the way things go. It'll be interesting to see how the Ducks respond.
In other news, J.T. Brown was picked up by the Ducks off waivers. I like this move a lot. Boll is an enforcer, and a damn good one, but Shaw had simply been quiet for quite sometime. The move looks to be an attempt to bolster the fourth line. Brown gave Anaheim a lot of problems when the Ducks played the Lightning, and I anticipate a heavier more effective 4th line.
Tomorrow is a matinee game. The Ducks are in Denver to play the Colorado Avalanche. Hoping this team can do for Cogliano what he's done for them. |

Cog`s is not a player like that...the person he targeted must have done something to that required a response..... like to know what it was? |

Yeah, I doubt the hit wasn't for no reason. Sometimes people act out of line and you must exert yourself. It is what it is. |

The Cogliano suspension is such hog wash. In a game that started with 3 fights, a interference call is the only thing that gets the safety departments attention. I mean cogs barley hit him. If Cogliano wanted to do damage to kempe he could have done better than that. To me the hit was just a warning to kempe who is no choose boy him self. And by the way, Cogliano has no prior suspensions. A fine would have been totally in order. But Parros is coming off as not trying to be soft on his former team. Thanks A lot George. Cogs is a journeyman grinder who's biggest clam to fame would have been this streak. Ending it on something as trivial as this is a vast overstatement that Parros should be embarrassed about. Not proud of. |

Oh I agree! He should have received a fine at best, first offense and all. However, it doesn’t matter if he’s retaliating. There were 3 fights prior and everyone was pumped up. |

Why wasn't Cogs ejected like Macdermid was when he hit Kasa in the first game, i believe? Only difference between the hit was Mac never elevated his hit on Kasa, while Cogs did, which is why he is now getting 2 games. Have to wonder if the ref gives him a major, does he still get the 2 games? |

That's a great question. As soon as I saw the hit, I told my boys it would be at least 4, if not a suspension. It looked pretty brutal. I hate that the streak ended this way though. |

The biggest problem with MacDermid's hit was that it was late, forceful/violent, and resulted in an injury. While there was some head contact due to the size mismatch of the players, the principal point of contact wasn't the head, but rather through the body. MacDermid doesn't elevate or propel himself upwards to make the hit.
With Cogliano, the contact was pretty much only to the head. The size difference is in Kempe's favor, meaning Cogliano has to elevate himself to make head contact. He could have chosen to go through the body, but instead went up high. It didn't help that it was even later than MacDermid's hit on Kase. I don't think it was malicious, but during a physical game where everyone was putting a little bit extra into their hits, I don't think it was purely innocent either.
I would have been ok with only a fine, but with the NHL trying to crack down on headshots, I'm not surprised that Cogliano was given 2 games. It does suck that his ironman streak was broken due to a borderline hit. |

It was very late...and it was high....but I think Giordanos was more violent, was also a hit to the head, resulted in greater injury and I think Giordano has at least been fined before (not sure about Cogliano)...and yet nothing for Giordano.
Consistency is overrated, right? |

Dirty hit on Fowler causing serious injury = no hearing.
Dirty hit on Aho causing serious injury = no suspension.
That seems like consistency to me. Just remember, he doesn't get suspended because he's not a dirty player. If he was a dirty player, he'd get suspended. The circular logic will make your head spin. |

Second lamest.
Keenan benched Steve Larmer, thus ending what would have been a run at the record.
Fun facts are indeed fun. |

I never thought Parros would be booed at Honda Center EVER. I think he will now, which blows my mind. That call was so incredibly weak. Maybe late sure, but if that's the logic. Their almost can be a suspension everyday on a NHL full slate of games. The NHL is so inconsistent it blows my mind. |
