Okay question for you. If CHI traded Saad today and got that return what is your opinion on that?

It’s a good return for Tats. Couldn’t ask for better without an extreme ripoff. But let’s face it, Holland (frank)ed up today after all the rumors involving Green, DDK, Glendening, Nyquist, and AA and admitting he’s still trying for the (frank)ing playoffs like a (frank)ing idiot.

Green- his current status hurt his value but yeah should of gotten something
DDK-not getting out from that deal unless u take on something poopty too
Glendening-meh, minimal cap hit
Nyquist-i say keep him, need some NHL experience as they go even younger here
AA-not unless its for a young defenseman of the same regard..

Still didn't trade Green. But I'm happy he traded Tatar. I wasn't expecting that.

hard to imagine that Green couldn't even fetch a 2nd rounder. They should of at least taken something for him.

I appreciate that Holland got fair value returns for Mrazek and Tatar, but it sucks that they are the victims (or rather, the ONLY victims) of the better-late-than-never rebuilding effort. They are productive players on reasonable (if maybe a teensy bit high) contracts. Trading them gets the team out of cap hell for now, but they weren't why team was in cap hell in the first place.

Obviously that's a big reason why those players were the ones moved -- other teams actually wanted them enough to part with valuable assets. But I hate that Tatar and Mrazek had to die for Kenny's sins, when the primary products of his sinfulness are still there clogging up the roster.

It won't happen, but this offseason I would love to see the team make a serious effort at taking out the garbage (starting with Holland and Blashill). Would somebody take DeKeyser or Ericsson for a mid-late pick, expiring contract, or even just a minor league nobody if Detroit was willing to retain up to $1 million? How about Nielsen, Abdelkader, or Daley? Not all of them obviously, but at least one or two.

I know that looks like "trading something for nothing," but that "nothing" is actually cap and roster space, which IS a legitimately valuable asset worth pursuing in its own right. The Red Wings have too many negative-value contracts locked up for too long, and they'll continue to stall a full rebuild and limit opportunities for an as-quick-as-possible turnaround until at least a few of those awful deals are gone, one way or another.
