Mark, loving the potential trade partner series so far!
Don't you think that is a tad bit of an overpayment for Edler?
1st, 3rd, and two prospects sounds like a lot |

your like the homer opposite. aging poor possession d man with only a year left on his deal would be lucky to get a 2019 first alone. |

I really don't think Florida is far off from competing for the cup, I'd be weary trading first rounder's. Maybe look more into the UFA to tinker a little bit. |

May be a tad of an overpay but I think the theory is that next years 1st would be a later first assuming FLA makes the playoffs and a 3rd 2 years from now is meh. Also the 2 throw ins are a meh prospect and a fringe NHLer. I see how it makes sense for FLA. |

Trevor Linden isn't the GM of the Canucks, Jim Benning is. |

Hey Mark
Us here at Hockeybuzz aren't used to these multi-article per week Panthers blogs
We're use to one every 3 weeks or so where we hear complains about officials and we make fun of Dan's Get-Rich-Quick schemes
Slow down buddy! We can't take it! |

I would make this trade in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, Edler has already stated many many times that he will never waive his NTC.
So, Canucks are stuck with him until the end of next season probably. Which management is probably not going to want to let him walk for nothing and will be stuck with a choice. Let him walk for nothing, or try to resign him. If he is so deadset on staying local, he will probably take less money to stay.. but also require another NTC. Cycle repeats.

1st and prospect is par the course for Dmen like Edler. Hepo would be nice. one can dream. Who knows. I'd prefer they move Edler at deadline and resign him in offseason. But he'd likely only sign if there is another NTC to go with a 3 year deal.
Coburn was moved out of Phili for a 1st, 3rd and Gudas. But he had term remaining.

That proposal to acquire Edler would be worse than the Panthers firing of head coach, Gerard Gallant, and in the way they did so in handling it that day. Gallant was not the fault of any Panthers team woes that season, and I'm sure that management has regretted that insane decision through the current day, and who knows for how much longer, due especially to some expansion team still playing in this postseason in Round Three. |

I’m pretty sure Benning can barely hold back his excitement on the line with this one |
