Questions moving forward: Is there a team out there willing to make that trade?
I'm still willing to bet 100 internet tokens that he collects his $1m signing bonus and leaves the remaining $2m on the table in favor of retiring.
The california assignment was the favor. He has already made almost $40m.
He doesn't need to ride the bus anymore, and despite the opinions of some, he is 100% washed out of the league. He may be actually the slowest player in the NHL today.

I would say a fair definition of "didn't work out" would be a 1st rounder that plays less than 100 games in the NHL. Open to interpretation of course, but ideally, a 1st rounder is a long time NHLer, on any team. If he's not, then he's probably a bust, due to talent or injury. - TheSabresTaco
So Grigorenko technically worked out then |

So then Girgensons “worked out” by your definition
By mine, he disappointed |

Anyone in particular you’re thinking we should bring in?

I have been thinking of Max Pacioretti, can score, leadership ability, 29 so not ancient, has decent wheels. Not sure what the cost would be. |

Entering the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in a few weeks time, Grigorenko and his respective controversial rankings have become the biggest storyline of this draft class. After a strong start to his North American debut experiencing almost no transition period, the big pivot had become one of a few elite offensive players available in the draft, yet, recently the scouting world has been awfully critical of his play causing him to be dubbed a “faller”. As the year unfolded, it became easier to find anonymous quotes by scouts stating that they would “not touch Grigorenko” or “Mikhail is not worthy of a top 20 selection” or some other bold statement with a similar sour tone. In truth, based on pure upside, the Quebec Remparts’ high scoring freshman has arguably the highest offensive upside of any skater in this draft class.
The biggest knock against Grigorenko is that his work ethic is wildly inconsistent displaying bouts of poor effort often appearing invisible. However, Mikhail’s methodical puck possession style of play contributes to the illusion that he is not putting forth maximal effort. Much like Joe Thornton in San Jose, Grigorenko is a cerebral player that eludes elite vision, exhibits deft puck skills and has the ability to control the flow of the game. This particular style of play can often appear lethargic at times as the player does not need maximum physical effort but rather an impressive understanding of the ice and it’s surroundings to control the pace of the game at his pleasure. Grigorenko utilizes this extra time to make elite-level reads and draws from his keen hockey sense to make the intelligent play.

Like him as a player quite a bit
But i think he’s due a new contract after this season
Are u gonna want to sign him to a big $$$, long term deal?
Bc that’s what he’d demand
I don’t wanna trade for him,
Bc then we are gonna have to sign him till his late 30s
If he were signed for the next 4 or 5 years,
then I’d say to go for it |

Hmmmm, wonder what other recent high draft pick this would apply to?

For sure, that is the conundrum.
Or maybe, count n a couple of compliance buyouts after the ‘20-21 season....get 3 - 4 years and say goodbye.
Probably very unlikely ... but there are drawbacks to everyone.
Maybe they could squeeze something else out of the Habs? |

Similarities exist, at least pre-draft they did. I believe Taylor had good things to say about Alex's work ethic this season. There's no reason not to give him another year. People seem to forget that most players don't start in the AHL until 2 years after they're drafted. This year should be the 1st year a CHL player would be in the AHL.
yes, yes, he was a high 1st round pick. But as we've seen, some players take longer than others. Especially with his groin injury, which can be one of the most hampering injuries a skater can have, other than tearing tendons. As long as he's working hard, I don't really care how long it takes, as long as he's developing in the right direction. He's supremely talented and he still has 3 years on his ELC. |

I officially stand corrected.
I always thought it was just some AHL team in Canada, which is why he was lent there, being close and all. |

I wouldn’t wanna trade ROR for him like Patch suggests
Obviously their #3 puck would be the goal,
but that’s unlikely (even though their GM is probably desperate to save his job)
We could probably get Galchenyuk
And while he’s shown to be a decent player who could be a good scorer...
Is he the “right” player? |

Chuk fits this team. I don't know about him on a character level, but the player fits the team. Age, speed, ability, LW capable. |

He probably doesn’t have much trade value now anyways
I think we are probably stuck in hoping that he eventually works out
Which is still quite possible
Just been a rough start to his career so far |

the trade I proposed to the montreal blogger, brandon smillie, was:
ror and next year's second for Drouin, patches and one of the habs second rounders this season...
he was good with that |

Galchenyuk for ROR is the definition of "making a move just to do it." His stats are pretty pedestrian (I'm sure someone will come in and say he scores 100% of his 50 points a year at 5-on-5, whatever). He plays an easier position than ROR and his contract issue up in 2 years, so you'll be giving him a raise, or losing him.

I sure do hope you are right as the Sabres could absolutely use him ... IF he learns to play the game properly.
I have my serious doubts...I don’t believe that you can change a players drive and williness to compete. Shot, skating ability, positioning...drive, not so much. |
