The Blue Jackets do not need to overhaul their scouting department.

Ville Serin has done a fine job and a well thought out analysis of the cupboard. There's a reason why the cbj are amoung's the youngest teams in the league. Some of the young talent is coming right in and making a contribution.

Milano could also be named but I fear he's somehow involved as a trade bait asset.

Korpisalo has nothing more to learn in the ahl, and Elvis Merzlinkis (the great forgotten prospect) is begging for a shot at nhl glory. That's some incredible and young goalie depth right there.

What do people think this team is, the US version of Ottawa?

The comments in the last blog was crazy about the CBJ braintrust screwed up St. Louis, and now this commentator writes what he wrote. I guess the standard for a good minor league system is something like Pittsburgh, tank often until your can draft two HoF players then find lots of average NHL guys to fill in the holes.

BTW, anyone think that Phil Kessel is on the move and the CBJ should show some interest in him?

I think they should, we need more offense. But the player does come with some baggage and he might not be a player Torts can live with. But we need more offense, especially in the playoffs.

No Kessel, no, no, no. Not only the baggage, but he's a "complimentary" player, not one that can carry a team.
Pittsburgh worked because he was complimentary to either Crosby or Malkin. Kessel did not "power" his own line.

When the CBJ add players this summer, there are better, and younger, places to spend that money on.

Have a list of players you are willing to share?

Thanks!

Even though none of the forwards except Panarin cracked 55 points (iirc) I think the Jackets have enough scoring through out the line up - spread nicely. Could see an addition like a Nyqguist improving the top 9 but not much else needed right?

You would think not much is needed, but then the CBJ has never won a playoff series in their existence either. There's something missing, and IMO it's one or more of five things:

1. Not enough offense in the playoffs.
2. No superstar that can carry the team against top-flight competition
3. The Goaltender is great in the regular season but cannot do what Holtby did in the Cup run and Floury did in the every series but the Cup final.
4. There is not enough talent to beat playoff teams no matter how good they are in the regular season.
5. The players are not mentally tough enough to win tough series.

Any other guesses appreciated.
