Rasmussen, Veleno and McIsaac are great building blocks. |

Didn't Detroit also pass on him at the front of the draft? Lol |

I really like Detroits young forwards with Larkin, Mantha, Zadina, Athanasiou, Bertuzzi. Even the not so sure ones with Svechnikov, Rasmussen, Frk, Veleno.
Now if Detroit can fix the expensive dead weight and get some D in the pipeline they could be scary in the future. |

It's almost as if acquiring more draft picks is a good thing? Wish that was the case here.....
In other news. Canucks have an extra 6th rd pick next year!

Can't ditch the bad contracts without giving up those young players, or nice draft picks. So enjoy a year or two of lottery picks and ride out the storm. Kronwall/Howard off the books following this season (10+M), Franzen/Ericsson/Daley (another 11.5M). That will free up a ton!!!! After that only Nielsen/Abdelkader/Dekeyser (14.5M) will be the only ugly contracts left. And with the cap increasing, and some likely high calibre rookie contracts, that wont be an issue. There is not quick fix, but in 5 years, you may be looking back on this time with a grin. |

I like the outlook of his team for forwards. Got some good second pairing potential dmen. Goalies are always a crapshoot. Just need that one top pairing dman to really set this team back on the right track. |

As a Hawks fan I was hoping Bowman would take Veleno at 27th overall..
Rumor has it that there was a top prospect in the draft that had a "video game addiction" problem that was severe enough that it affected the player's dedication to hockey, his training and play on the ice so many suspected that player was Veleno considering he dropped to 30th overall when he was projected to go 10-15.... I'm shocked Bowman didn't take him, because he's the type of player coach Q loves.... IMO I think the Wings probably had one of the better drafts out of all the teams.. IMO, just about every player that was taken in the first round has "star" potential - I mean this was one of the most deep drafts I have ever seen, however the Wings did extremely well stealing Zadina & Veleno... Zadina will be a superstar, and Veleno will be an excellent two-way player who could turnout to be a superstar himself perhaps on the level of Kopitar....So I think this draft potentially turned the Wings franchise around... |

The rumor you are referencing (if it's the same one I remember) specifically stated that the player in question had already been drafted in 2017 (EDIT: it said a "recent first-round pick," so could be earlier than 2017). |
