Those were not 5 premium pieces or a treasure trove of assets. 2 plugs, a B level(maybe) a later first and second isn't great. Botts made the best deal he could and it was nowhere near a blockbuster. Give it up already Garf...

It's not the five pieces that the Coyotes wouldn't move. It is the first round pick that the sabres more then likely were demanding that is the problem with the Coyotes.

The Blues pick will be in the bottom half of the draft. The Coyotes, even with some good moves, may very well still be a top 5 pick.

Those 2 plugs can get you 2nds at the deadline that B level prospect is a 1st round pick and is more like an A level prospect and a 1st and a 2nd.

Take away your garbage narrative and you are looking at 1st, 3 2nds and a 1st round prospect.

Cry about it but that is the way it looks.

What would you expect to get for a crybaby who just as much said he wanted out of Buffalo and the entire league knew about ROR's whining. Dealing from a weak hand I think Botterill did a great job.

A level to you is 9 points in half of a season? A guy that hasn't had significant offensive production since turning pro? But he's a first round pick, so he's worth at least 2 firsts next year, right?

Deal nixed by Papa O'Reilly. No Tim Horton's in AZ. Only the best donuts for the better hockey-playing son of his.

Enjoy your powdered Donettes, Cal.

The trade was not for 5 premium pieces. I would have liked us to take less pieces but get better players. 2 third line centers a prospect that could be good but wasn’t even one of the top 5 in the blues organization, then a late first
And second. We probably could have gotten better players somewhere else if we weren’t focused on the number of items coming back. I obviously have no insider information but am betting that we could have gotten a better return.

Garbage narrative? Sobotka and Berglund were both salary dumps. Thompson is a physical specimen who has done little at the NHL level to date, The jury is still out on him. The first round pick will be somewhere between 20-30. The second 50-60. Statistically much less than 50% of these players ever player an NHL game. Five pieces? Not exactly. Quantity not quality
Could it work out for the Sabres? Absolutely. Is it a garbage take? No.
If only because Sobotka and Berglund will actually improve the Sabres. Sabres were that bad last year

Premium? ..not trying to troll here..but ..botter didn't even get a top 5 st . Louis prospect!..and the first is OK. .but as in kaner a 20to30 pick. .who could be a player in 3/4years? ..and a couple of bottom 6 guys. ..who's best days are behind them. IMHO. .more quantity Than quality! ..it might turn out?..I hope it does! ..but they can't be in a perpetual rebuild? ..orielly liked buffalo. .but wanted out because of the fact his premium years are being wasted by the on going rebuild. .no playoffs..hopefully this will change soon with a franchise center franchise dman. .and a younger core getting ready to produce at the next level..st . Louis at this time hands down won that trade .the best player in the deal..but hopefully some of the picjs/and prospect will turn out😊

True about the crying part!..but these pieces will be 3/6? Years away? ..they have to make the playoffs sooner rather than later. .if jack not happy.😆 .then jack gets mad!😠

As everyone else said to you this wasn't a great trade. I never said it was a bad trade and please tell me who is going to give you a 2nd round pick for Sobotka? I honestly don't see you getting a 2nd for Berglund but some team may offer that if Botts throws in something else. Thompson could turn out to be a top 9 player but he hasn't shown much so far. This wasn't a garbage narrative just to attack the team or the fans. It was only to show how delusional Garf is.

GMJB didn’t get anything close to premium peices for anyone or anything on buffalos roster. No matter how many times you copy and paste it, it will never be true.

I agree with this. It's an accurate, but unfortunate, take on both players improving this poop show. Hopefully, with the addition of Dahlin and Mittlestat, things will start to turn around for this team.

One wonders if Max Domi or Oliver Ekman Larsson were considerations for Botterill to acquire in a Sabres-Coyotes swap.

Yes OEL. A top 5-10 defender in the NHL for 2nd or 3rd line centre. And an overpaid one at that. Only in Garth's world does that one make sense

Its all relative .... for St. Louis (and other deeper teams like Pittsburgh) that trade was 2 salary dumps, 2 decent picks and an okay prospect that projects to be a 3rd-4th liner (on a good team).

For the 31st place team in the NHL ... all of those are premium assets.
