Bob Duff: With Zetterberg gone, time to turn the page
Two seasons removed from their most recent playoff appearance, and with six years gone since their last taste of postseason success, the Detroit Red Wings have sought to sell a bill of goods to their fan base that they’re not all that far off from tasting the promised land of playoff hockey once more. Captain Henrik Zetterberg's departure must bring an end to this facade. |

Weird
Right when Detroit was ready to rebuild and in cap trouble, coinciding with the massive drop in Zetterbergs pay....
Better than an "Equipment Allergy" I guess
Oh well, They drew up that contract just about perfectly I have to say...

Can’t say I’ve read a lot of Duff’s blogs - are they always passionately one sided like this? The Yzerman blog was really one sided. Veteran stopgaps not making sense? Well yeah, sometimes they pan out and sometimes they don’t. What happens if Yzerman comes in sometime in April, has a good draft, and somehow manages to land Varlamov, Panarin, and Karlsson? Is that likely? No, possible? Yes.
What if Karlsson isn’t strongly tied to the Lightning, what if he’s drawn to Yzermans successes? I think predictions for this season are fair game for criticism, but with number of impact UFAs coming up next season really anything could happen. Remember when Minnesota landed Parise and Suter? No reason why a number of teams couldn’t do something similar (only less poopty) |

Yeah. Pretty much. He used to just parrot the local sports writers and recently he started giving his opinions. I’ve found I usually disagree with him almost 100%. After the wings killed the draft he complained about not taking a defensemen. I get it but they took best player available and it turned out quite well.
Like here, saying the wings are trying to delude the fans. The fans knew this needed to happen. We need to get out of cap hell and poopty contracts need to burn off. We needs some vets. It will be a couple of years before we trend up. I’m more excited now to see this start to happen then to watch the the ineffective overpayed vets we have been playing. Bring it on. Just play hard. Evolve and let the chips fall where they may |

By the way, I love how Duff wrote a column in the Windsor Star before he "retired" a year or so ago whining about how people were on him for saying not to give spots to young players. |

Usually they are just 90% quotes from players and coaches which is lame.
Sad part is though when he writes his opinions he is absolutely the worst blogger on this site.
Its lose lose with this guy. |

Yeah- I’m all for people having opinions and sharing them but this seemed like it wasn’t thought out very well |

"Thought out well" isn't something you can expect from Duff.
Like Feds said, most of his blogs are just quotes surrounded by basic summary and transition paragraphs. Basically devoid of any kind of thought or opinion whatsoever.
When he does share his opinion, it's usually wrong.
And even in the small minority of cases when his opinion is actually correct or defensible, he doesn't defend it well, or even really at all.
I know not everybody is into stats but you still need some way to provide supporting evidence for your arguments and build a logical case. The most sophisticated Duff ever gets in this regard is usually some variation on "something sort of similar at least on the surface happened at some point within the last 30 years and look how that turned out."
He is either unwilling or unable to analyze anything on a deeper level than that. |
