Oh hi. |

Are the Jets a good team? I don't know anymore. Also sick of hearing the "new year, new team" excuse. To me that translates into "we can't handle our expectations". Preds seem to be having no problems this year, but we are yet to see the Jets play a really good 60 minute game 10 games in. |

Totally agree with your Patrick Liability comment. He is a one trick pony (the shot) and the rest of is game is well below average. He needs to be stuck on the 4th line and play 1st unit PP. Would much rather see Perreault of Roslovic getting the 2nd line minutes. Laine is just too soft in both the d and O zones. He is definately making his next contract more affordable for the jets |

I really liked the game Lowry and Tanev had last night, they caused some turnovers in our zone and really pestered our D.
I agree though, with the exception of the first 10 minutes of the third, we were the better team. Don't write the Jets off yet, they are way too talented.

What I did notice about Laine last night is if things are not going his way he gets very pouty looking. His body language tells the story. We gotta remember that he's still about 19 or 20 years old. These guys who play this age are not men yet. They're playing a mans game but upstairs, they're still not men yet and that goes for his draft colleague Matthews as well. Maturity comes with time and I'm sure it will with him. I've yet to meet a 19-20 year old who got it all figured out. Laine is still a great player and will only get better with time. He could redeem himself and play his best game of the year on Saturday against us. The Jets are still the beasts of the West and will be for some time. |

I agree - he is young and not a man yet. That's why he needs to be eased into the game with lower 5 on 5 minutes - he costs the Jets way too much defensively. |

I've been at the last 4 home games ... I'm not a deep stats guy and have played beer league with only 1 former NHLer (who, to this day after 40+ yrs, holds an all-time NHL record that will never be broken) ... here's what I see:
Jets are struggling with higher expectations and a sense of entitlement ... several games back I got the impression they thought opponents would lay down for 'em - not going to happen ... everyone knows it's a solid team and the goalie was a Vezina finalist and the kid has a cannon for a shot and so on ... the rest of the league is ready and gunning for us
Analogy: John Madden wrote that, after winning a Super Bowl, you don't pick up from where you left off - you have to start all over again ... Jets have to re-establish themselves as a top 4 (or 5) team again ... start over
That takes 60 minutes of hard fought hockey ... fundamentals, discipline, focus ... strong team defence - first
The roster is solid ... you can always get better but in a cap league you can't always afford to get better ... our immediate gaps are a 1.b centreman, 1 LHD, and probably one winger ... having said that, Little is playing great
I'm not worried
Laine's game last night wasn't bad - it was embarrassing ... he'll rebound with the help of the vets and the coaches ... he's got more than an elite shot - he can handle the puck well in tight spaces using his size & reach in very unique ways ... his passing can also be at an elite level ... too much pressure last night and he didn't wear it well at all ... it was ugly
If it hasn't donned on them yet - they have to go out and earn it - AGAIN

Surprised that no one is mentioning that Ehlers scored! I have been saying since the beginning of the season to pair him with Scheifele and Wheeler. Look at waht happened when he got that chance.
Also, when is Maurice going to pair Laine with Connor and Roslovic? |
|
|
|
Gonna go out on a limb -
I don't think the performance issues are related to line combo's ... I'd put Connor back on Scheifs line and don't touch TLC until further notice
Address individual play within 'the middle 6' |

some thoughts,
I'm tired of fans and especially media assuming Laine's next deal should be around 10 per? this is ridiculous!!! I bet most would assume Kyle Connor's next deal would be around 6.5 - 7 per on a long term deal and people think Laine is worth 3 mil more per year??? not a chance!! we need to change this dialogue or Laine and his agent are going to have very unrealistic ideas about his next deal.
I want 55 & 26 split up as much as I don't want to see 27 & 29 together.
Maurice cant be afraid to sit Wheeler!! he has not been good and is being rewarded with extra shifts and more playing time. With the exception of the pass to Sheif on the PP goal he was absolutely horrible on the PP last night!!! missed nets where the puck left zone and multiple turn overs. Teams are learning that if they pressure Laine and Wheeler on the PP they turn it over.
Ros and Perreault need to play more!!! Ros is looking beat up and un interested, he is too young and too talented to sit around and play 4 min a game, how can you expect him to be involved or ready for one shift a game. |

It's a long season and the Jets have plenty of talent that they can turn things around. I thought the Leafs would be in trouble as they tend to fold with the heavy forecheck . they are skilled but small in size. I found the Jets didn't really use their size to their advantage.
Secondly you Jet fans see trouba all the time. Did he just have a bad game? There are always rumors in Leaf Land that they should use a guy like Nylander and try to obtain Trouba but honestly I wasn't impressed with his game last night. I don't think the Jets would trade Trouba anyway. |

Before your wood gets to that three-day mark Viagra warns you against, let me remind you the Jets were dominated for most of the game against the Blues also -- and the Blues took out the Leafs fairly easily. The point? The Blues aren't very good. |

The Leafs played well, but it's the NHL so it can easily go the other way on saturday night. The Jets were coming back until the 4th goal, I thought Wheeler looked good he controls the play down low better than any Leafs forward. |

I think Trouba is overrated. He is talented where he would be in most team's top 4's. He though is not an elite #1 d-man as he wants people to believe he is. From my perspective he should not get paid more than Morgan Reilly. |

The Leafs are the better team. Let's get that out of the way right now. That's not an indictment of the Jets it's not some unwarranted praise for the hockey team from the centre of Canada's universe it's simply a statement based on fact. That fact was proven last night at the Bell MTS centre in front of a national Canadian audience and national American one with NBC broadcasting the game. - Peter.Tessier
It was one game (and a helluva entertaining one).
Let's see what happens Saturday night.
They (Jets) are currently on pace for 107 points - 7 points less than last year, but there's still 72 games left.
It might be a tad early to declare the Jets dead in the water.
See you Saturday! |

So refreshing to read something from a Leafs fan who isn't full of himself and actually makes a very valid point!
It's early people!
With that being said...my wife who has really only started watching hockey the last 2 years and unfortunately became a Jet's fan instead of a Hawks fan
has also noticed that the Jets seem very uninspired...entitled if you shall.
I think they will figure it out...but give em time Jet's fans!
GO HAWKS!

Half the reason my wife would rather watch the games at home is due to the fans in our section just spouting hate and nonsense.
Most fans in this city just don't seem to understand how hard it is to play hockey and play consistently good hockey against other teams attempting the same.
Fans in my section lately giving me the gears about how the Hawks are slowing down.
I always just say to them...when the Jets play in 3 finals in 6 years and make it thru the inevitable and natural depletion of health after playing in that many tough playoff games...come talk to me.
I think the Jets are close but not quite there..

I think all the Jets had a bad game, Trouba absolutely is a top pair D and does a lot of little things that go unnoticed. I like Nylander but we don't have cap space for another expensive forward when both Connor and Laine need new deals next year. Plus we have Roslovic and Perreault on our fourth line playing under 5 min a game. If anything we have room to trade a forward or two not acquire another one. |

If Myers was a sheltered, 3rd pairing dman whom was strategically used to murder 4th liners, I’d love him.
But he’s not. He’s over exposed and not good. |

3-way Deal
TOR - Trouba
CAR - Nylander
WPG - Aho
Add in draft picks as required to balance the trade. |
