After reading some of the Penguins Facebook comments... yep. Saw a handful of armchair GMs who were convinced they would have signed him for under 5 mil a year. |

They must all be from Cleveland. |

Anybody complaining about this deal should revisit their complaints when the crop of rfas all sign...Pittsburgh was smart to get it done in advance. Me thinks in 7 to 10 months this deal looks amazing for the Pens.
I'll pay for a guy who has proven performance in the playoffs when it matters anyday over some of the regular season stars who wilt under the bright lights |

This comment is actually hilarious to me on a personal level
I lived in PGH for a hot minute and my roomie was from Cleveland, and a huge Pens homer but he's absolutely clueless in every way about everything
Also, this contract is a steal. Buffalo wishes we signed Reinhart to a similar one but alas, he got the bridge deal of doom. |

It's a good, unspectacular deal. Jake is a good player who's worth 6 mil and won't even be thirty by the time the deal is done. It shouldn't be in danger of becoming a bad contract throughout its duration. |

This ^^
It's a fair deal. Not a steal, not stealing. Given the length and age of the player, no looming cap ramifications down the road.
If he was UFA, would've been happy with the same deal coming to my team, wishing could've gotten a tad cheaper, but overall acceptable. |

Poor Rhino - RhinoFan
Buffalo's current favorite whipping boy
He's turning into a .ppg player
He isn't flashy, he doesn't have a killer shot, and he gets knocked off the puck to easily sometimes because he's a perimeter player.
But a #2 overall becoming a .ppg player by his 4th season is all we could have asked for.
In all honesty, when his bridge deal is up, I could see PGH as a potential landing spot for him if only for the Botterill connection. We will see what happens at the end of next season, but he is going to be looking for a 7+ million dollar contract if he stays at around a .ppg pace. |

not much space to sign players this off season. I assume brassard is leaving? |

Assuming the cap increase... we will have around 8 mil for just a few players. 3rd line center being the biggest find. Defense is signed, top 6 is signed. I think the top 6 wingers also signed, maybe even all 8.
We are still heavy on money for the D, but we are okay for next season... assuming JR doesn't do anything crazy. |

Yup. 3C is probably the only thing they'll need to find outside the system. Judging by the additions of Riikola and Pettersson, I have a feeling Maatta could be moved. |

Dude from Pittsburgh hockey now, Dan Kingerski or whatever said it’s a big risk and a gamble of a contract. Dudes a (frank)ing joke. |

I was going to write that, but just deleted it because it's probably impossible to move his contract. |

I think the big question is does Grinder think Jake is worth the money? |

Haha would be nice. And from the last thread with having Pearson twice I had him showing that either the acquisition or Pearson could play 3rd or 2nd line LW. Just like I had Horn and Rust interchangeable. |

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel jack johnson has been a little better since the pens little surge. I’m cautiously optimistic they could trade him if JR wanted to |

It’s the Pettersson effect. He’s such a stable dman he’s been able to minimize JJ’s terrible play. |
