Eh. I think legitimate fights will have always have a place in hockey and I’ll leave at that. I know a ton of people disagree there, but I like the freedom players have of being able to drop the gloves if someone is pissing you off.
That being said, I don’t think it’s a substitute for good officiating, and I think goons that amiacably drop the gloves in staged fights should be suspended for the season. |

Someone made an argument last blog about Pearson. I thought he was invisible again last night. I even think I read he had one shot on goal. He's been underwhelming for a while now. He's got to score or Hagelin brought way more value.
It's becoming slightly concerning... |

It's rumored that Penguin scouts have been scouting Dallas the past 2 nights. I wonder if JR has something else up his sleeve. |

Staged/premeditated fights for crowd entertainment and to boost a team = bad.
Staged/premeditated children's games played by grown men for crowd entertainment and to boost a team = great.
For the record, I'm no longer a fan of staged fights, and don't have a problem with the celebrations. I have a problem with people whining about people whining. |

Anyone else think Blueger might be the second coming of Guentzel? Not sure what it is, but I think he is going to be really good for the Pens.
I see Bjugstad being a really nice fit on Malkins wing. McCann might be over his head a bit at 3C but if he were to draw Pearson and Kessel at the wings it could work.
The D are really looking bad though. They need a second pair LD who can play with Schultz. I'd love to get Bouwmeester as a rental there. |

Enough about Brassard, he gone. No to fighting. No to DDG or any other contrived celebration. In the immortal words of the Emporor Chas Noll, act like you’ve been there before. |

I think there’s a difference between guys (frank)ing around after the final whistle blows and guys forcing a stoppage in play because they felt like it would be fun to have bout. Granted, I don’t think staged fights are a cancer on the game or anything, I just think they’re super dumb and belittle real fights when guys actually drop the gloves for a reason. |

I'd be more inclined to think Geno got injured when he got rocked by a check than that fight. I can't remember who lined him up on Tampa but it was a good clean hard check and Geno looked like he ran into a wall and fell. |

Not for fights that happen during gameplay. But for acting out drama club after the game has ended. Borat has something to say about this blog. Nice blog. Not.

So I was drinking but not watching the game last night....
How are the new guys looking? Did we still look solid despite a loss? |

On Pearson:
He really hasn’t been given a good look with anyone consistently. Outside of Crosby and guentzel everyone else is playing duck duck goose with the rest of the spots.
Now that the centers are figured out I would hope he finds a spot next to Malkin and makes an impact |

This is basically where I’m at. I’m a fan of Pearson’s all around game, like I was with Hagelin’s, and think he’ll do well when put with Geno again. But if he keeps not producing with Malkin, I will at some point lose patience with him. But I think he’ll be fine now that he’s not saddled with Suttard.
My main concern moving forward is that Rutherford will mandate that McCann be 3C when the lineup is healthy. I think that’d be a mistake. I really like Bjugstad in thag 3C role. |

I thought the same thing. He got smoked on a nasty legal check. |

I agree that Pearson's all around ability is underrated. He also has flashes of his offensive abilities. I hope when Malkin gets back the lines i I hope will look something like this
Guentzel- Crosby - Horny
Bjugstad- Malkin - Kessel
Pearson- McCann - Rust
Simon- Bluegar - Wilson
As I eluded to I still have this feeling JR isnt done though.

My opinion of Pearson is the same as Hornqvist, he obviously looks much better in the top 6 than not but I thought he played well with Phil before when we had Brass. Does he or Hornqvist look good with McCann? No, both of those wingers looked extremely vanilla. Lots of very small chips up the boards which they’re too slow to go get. When Geno gets back maybe RBK stays together and Geno gets Pearson and Horny or something. RW has shared the same opinion on 72, he’s definitely most effective with 87/71 and appears to have a large drop off away |

I think it’s funny to see Simon on the 4th line. I think in 13 minutes of TOI Simon will typically provide more value than Pearson more often than not.
I’m with Vic. I think Bjugstad is the 3C rn and I think the long-term hope is that McCann can become the 3C but if he can’t I think we’re all fine hoping Bjug brings a steady presence with ~40 points (depending on who he’s playing with). We gave HBK a ton of slack after their run was over and kept trying it over and over. I don’t see any reason not to continue to try RBK. I think that line would do MORE damage once Geno returns and they see softer matchups
Just because Geno and Phil had that one electric game against Tampa together doesn’t put me at ease having them always together. I think was to get Phil away from Brass. Rutherford has said often he wants Phil on his own line. Give RBK. A shot, let’s continue to find out what we have with Simon on Sid’s line which in my mind answers a whether we’re done or not question. Does anyone have a problem with a line of Pearson-Geno-Horny? If Pearson doesn’t perform swap him with McCann or try Blueger up there. As far as I’m concerned in the immediate future Malkin’s LW is the only top 9 job up for grabs
To me, Cullen looks rejuvenated. He’s playing with extra jump in his step and I think it’s because his job feels threatened. How long can he keep up the higher tempo before he burns out? I guess we’ll see
Hopefully Schultz makes everyone look a little better (maybe even JJ) |

I think Pearson looked good with Malkin, then he was hurt, playing through it and got 1 goal in 20ish games.
Bjugstad with Kessel and rust has looked pretty good in 2 games. I think Sullivan has a ton of options once Malkin comes back and its going to take a few games to determine who fits best with who |

Why are we bumping down Simon? Sadly, Pearson is looking like the new odd man out with his mediocre point production. 13 points in 36 games here... having a 30 point pace is not bad by any means in the NHL... but for 4 mil a year that is a bit overpaid.
But hey, maybe Sully will deal him with JJ for a bag of pucks and we get the addition by subtraction |
