To what end, exactly? Just a poops and giggles “let’s see how it goes” thing?

I just don’t see any reason to bastardize such an amazing sport! They damaged it with too many stupid rules/experiments. Keep the game the way it was. No instigator rule. No trapezoid behind the net, etc. It was a great game that is trying to adapt to the casual fan, and alienating the rabid fan, all in the name of more money.

If they’re going to make any changes, how ‘bout reducing the size of goalie equipment? The game doesn’t need any more gimmicks!

I don't think it is a bad idea. In all honesty the game could improve even more. We should be encouraged that people are willing to further the excitement of the game. Even if it doesn't work out well I give them credit for trying. I have no problem admitting some of the games are not exciting to watch. It's like a ping pong match until someone gets a power play. Live, the game is always awesome... but on tv , even for people like us that appreciate the nuances of the game, it could be more interesting

Why does it make a 60-minute game of hockey more entertaining?

If a team is down by 2 goals with under 5 minutes to play it might add to the entertainment value, but empty net goals counting as two points would just be stupid. Overall I am not a fan of the idea.

Great, now Seabrook wouldn't have the worst contract in the NHL. Why pay guys like Patrick Kane to use skill to create goals when your new MVP's will be strong shot defensemen who lumber around the blue line even if they cant skate anymore. Congrats, your bringing the equivalent of the MLB DH to the NHL. He cant skate or defend anymore but he can put a bomb on net and get 100 point seasons still. Awful experiment

I am not in favor of this, for that reason and because it will throw historical stats comparisons really out of whack.

A horrible idea. If any goal is worth 2 goals it’s a direct shot only from outside the blue line. I could see a goalie pulled in a hurry.

I commend these people for trying. My idea to make it better along the lines of using a two point line would be to also award two points if a puck fired from beyond that new line traveled across the end line and the next player to touch it scored. so a defensmen on the point could fire it off the boards to a forward and if the forward scores off of that then it is two points. It would probably make defending forwards run out to the point more and open space up around the net. I just remember the Hawks Nashville series in 2017 when all Nashville did was collapse around the net on defense and the Hawks passed it around the perimeter. Or even better yet...make it two points if the puck goes off the opposing team and into the net. That should open up the front of the net

Yes the NBA turned into a joke as soon as MJ retired and it got worse with Kobe. All one on one, guys wanting to press the issue on offense and be the next MJ and dribbling the ball off of their foot; fade away three pointers, etc. Sad to see, for a guy who loved watching the 90's Bulls. The more influence the Euros have on the game now the better it is getting but I still cant watch more than a few possessions until i get amazed at how people think that sport is worth selling out stadiums over

I foresee the teams trying to feed the point, then the teams clog up the slot and block lots of shots. What excitement.

You're not going to get folks in the stands to put their cellphones down, no matter what stupid rule change you come up with.

Cutting to the chance here~and ignoring so many awful offshoots~this is clearly an idea working off the NBA 3-Point basket... but when you think about it in the context of the two sports, you can see how much more severe it is in hockey. In basketball, where scoring is plentiful compare to hockey, a 2-Pointer increases the score by 50% and much more minimally in the grand scheme of a game... wheres in hockey, it doubles the score~100%~in a sport where scoring is relatively rare and worth much more...Add to that the fact that it is counterproductive to the aim when the leading at the time team scores from outside the 2-Point Line...and an open netter is much more often fatal.

The 2-Pointer has the high potential of changing the thought processes to many ways with great negative ramifications... the least if which not being increased "Shoot" yelling from the stands.

This possibly might be the worst idea that could be implemented in the NHL.
