It's nice to see the writers in a consensus stance that AM and JT are the best 1-2 punch in the Atlantic. They may be the best 1-2 punch in the entire NHL.

Tanner doesn't count. It could be the best 1-2 tennis players and he would say they were Leafs.

238 is the standard for Matthews. He's only had one healthy game so far in his career.

You can watch...and you can project. He has played 212 games over 3 seasons.
He has scored 111 goals. Solidly a 43-44 goal a year pace.
His BEST year...68 games, 37 goals...a pace of 46 goals.

He has NEVER played a season at a 50 goal pace YET, let alone 60.

He has the POTENTIAL to be a 60 goal scorer. But, to this point, not even a 50 goal a year guy.

Matthews can be a 60 goals scorer, but only when/if he ever plays a full season at full health. Until then, he isn't even a 50 goal scorer.

Matthews would score 70 goals per season if Babcock played him 25min/game. The only things stopping Lord Matthews is health and Babcock.

????....how so? Just pointing out that SAYING a player scores at a 60 goal pace, when he has NEVER even scored at a 50 goal pace over ANY season he has played is a falsehood. We could say Jack Hughes is a 150 point scorer, cuz he looks really good on the ice and he has scored lots in other hockey. But, until it is fact no need to over-inflate things.

Auston is a stud player and great goal scorer. BUT, he is a 40-45 a year goal scorer. SO FAR. So, to say a 60 goal scorer is just....well....silly.

Malkin and Crosby are in the Metro, not the Atlantic. And I would put JT and AM right up there in the direct company of Malkin/Crosby, Stamkos/Point as far as 1-2 punches go.

Disagree. If a guy is scoring at a certain pace, as consistently as Auston Matthews has, you would be discounting him to only take his totals in an injury shortened season. Scoring 40 in your rookie season is pretty unheard of. At a point, early last year, before he got injured, he was on a 62 goal pace. to say he can't hit 50 (or more) is just.. well.. silly. An Auston Matthews who plays 78-82 games is going to hit 50 all day at the rate he scores goals...

The season you're talking about, Matthews was struggling with an injury and went 15 games without a goal. He hasn't had a drought like that since. He is a 50 goal guy. Bank on it.
