It says a lot about the state of our roster that a dependable bottom-pairing guy who couldn't stay in the lineup on his last team is probably the second or third best defenseman on our team. |

Barrie and Girard where the only two regulars with a higher WAR60 than Nemeth last season fwiw |

For sure I would say he was under-utilized in Colorado, but at best I would still call him an average to slightly above average NHL defenseman, with almost all of that value obviously coming from defensive rather than offensive skills.
I mean, I defended the signing basically because he's a heck of a lot better than Ericsson or Daley, who are putrid both offensively and defensively and older and paid more.
But still, if you can make a credible argument that Patrik Nemeth is your second best defenseman, it's a pretty good bet your defense sucks. |

But he exactly the kind of D'Man we needed. Our defense last year was really soft, and had no one (maybe with the exception of Bowie) that could win a puck battle in the corner, or clear the front of the net. That's what Nemeth does best. I also might add that the Av's screwed up by taking him out of the lineup during the playoffs - they lost the series when they did that. |

To be fair, there wasn't just one type of defenseman the Wings needed. They were (and still are) lacking in every dimension -- offense, defense, strength, transition, the works.
Nemeth definitely makes the unit better. You'll get no argument from me on that. |

Sven... you going to catch any Griffins games this year ? For the first time in a long time we got some quality prospects that should be fun to watch. I'm sure Rasmussen will be there. I'm about 90% sure Seider, Kaski, and Kuffner will be there as well.
We'll see if Hirose can continue where he left off from last season. Otherwise, he'll be in GR too. I'm interested in seeing if Zadina is ready for the NHL. He'll have to convince me in preseason at this point. Veleno is the prospect I'm most excited about in the young group of forwards.
I may try to catch the preseason game against Chicago tonight on Fox Sports Plus. |

I will certainly catch at least a few games, but probably not as many as I would like to for a variety of reasons. I usually try to go to Wednesday night games if can. |
