Varlamov def should have had the first one. The second goal wasn’t his fault and was a desperate swat by Oshie that had eyes.
I thought the game was determined in the 3rd period as the Caps had jump and the Islanders in their half of the ice made some bad decisions with the puck.
All in all they weren’t terrible and as Trotz said in the post game it was a good test.
I didn’t think the Nelson MDC Bailey line worked and agree that Bailey was invisible and he may need to be put back on his natural side. Trotz mixed things up at the end of the third and we may see different 3rd and fourth lines tomorrow.

No excuses. This was a game they should have won. It’s only game 1 but the offense looks like there’s only one line capable of scoring a goal. Anders Lee and Josh Bailey were invisible all night. The D looks really good and adding Dobson is only gonna make it stronger. Barzal looks like he’s poised to have a monster year. But Lou needs to get him some help

Everyone thinks they have this amazing fourth line but Matt Martin doesn’t do a thing outside of checking guys in the neutral zone and Clutterbuck has zero hockey iq. Without Casey this line is a dumpster fire. Martin should be scratched tomorrow after yesterday’s performance
