Buff- this is a bad situation, he didn’t play in the “beauty” league this summer and that should have sent off alarm bells. Then waits until 11th hour to ask for time! It’s badly managed for sure.
I’d give him one week to decide.
Retire, play or trade. One week. That’s more than fair.
Jets cannot address the D without the clarity.
We are loaded at forward and are one more top D man away from even being a potential playoff team.
Roslovic, Ehlers, Laine and our 1st next year should all be on the table if Buff doesn’t return |

Dumb it down, keep it simple, and make some reads so you stay out of trouble.
Yep. |

Bolded - but what leverage does Chevy have? None, he is forced to wait unless pleading/begging works.
Italicized - Sabres will take all four, for....wait for it..

There is not one team that will trade a good d-man right now unless the Jets want to overpay for him, and what's the point? The Jets weren't predicted to make the playoffs with Buff there is no reason to panic now. Take the high pick that is suppose to be a deep draft and make moves in the offseason. |

Doug Armstrong didn’t throw in the towel in week one last year.
Went worst to first. Usually American thanksgiving is a hallmark of how the season will go but even Jan 1, the Blues were still worst.

I am super excited for tonight's game!
Wonder what wacky defensive schemes, Maurice will throw out tonight! |

The Jets shouldn't rush into making trades from a point of weakness. They should wait until they can make a trade with a team that has good defense but needs offense. When Niku, Beauleiu, Morrissey and hopefully Buff are in the lineup the defense will look much different. Also once again it looks as if the Jets lack of a discernible defensive system is evident and watching them run around their own zone is painful. Also with Maurice's reclamation projects Bourque, Letestu and Bitetto in the lineup the Jets are older, slower and less skilled than if they had 3 of their draft and develop kids in the lineup. |

Doug Armstrong was also not afraid to make bold moves, such as trading away Stastny and Shattenkirk; while at the same time trading for Schenn and O'Reilly. Both the the Shattenkirk and Statstny trades came when the Blues were very much in playoff hunts.
If that was Cheveldayoff, he would not have been able to pull of the trades to get Schenn and O'Reilly. Furthermore he most likely would have extended coach Yeo and signed both Stastny and Shattenkirk to long-term extensions. |

Scandella, Bogo (or casey nelson if you prefer) and a conditional 2nd* for the rights to Big Buff
* if he plays 20 games at RW for the Sabres
Another 2nd if he shows up next year too |

Why not just trade Ristolainen straight up for Byfuglien's rights? Seems like all Sabres fans want him out.
I would be curious to see how Ristolainen fairs on the Jets. I think with the huge Finnish contingent on the team, he might do quite well. Plus it would be fun to hear the commentators saying Laine, Vesalainen and Ristolainen all the time. |

Because Buff may never play again. Risto is still playing 20+ mins here. Risto would cost an actual roster player.
Little and 2nd for Risto.
Or a couple bodies and a conditional pick for Buff's rights |

Trade 1st rd. next year? How would you feel if that turned into Alexis Lafreniere? Ehlers, young and skilled, team friendly contract, brings fans out of their seats - and you want to deal him? |

So both Niku and Nogier recalled. I'm hoping that Sammy plays so well that he never sees the Moose again!
As well, I would insert Nogier in as well, sit Bitetto - but doubt that will happen. |

I always like watching a few of the Pens. It will be interesting to watch ex-Jet Tanev as well. I think the Jets come out of the road trip 2-2 so I expect a win tonight.

And what big moves did Armstrong make, Oh yeah he fired the coach that's it. So yes CharlieDog I agree with you Chevy should take after Armstrong. |

Lol. It's already a lost season.
Buff is not coming back to play on a hopeless team.
Chevy is giving dorion and Benning a run for worst gm in the league.

Sid must be licking his lips. Have a hard time liking that

And, he fired Yeo around mid November if I remember correctly, but he wasn't in tanking mode in week one. |

I correctly predicted the Jets would lose at least two games this year.
I find it interesting watching the new players play especially by throwing them in to get experience/minutes and seeing who can do what. Sink or swim so to speak. So often PoMo is criticized for not playing the youth. Now he has no choice. Lets see what Poolman, Niku, Pionk, Heinola can do. What if they happen to come together as a group and succeed?
Repairing the D will be a process as more than three need to be replaced. This will take time so panicking to make a trade for trades sake at this time is wrong.
I think Buff's departure is related to thoughts of retirement. It's difficult for me to believe that it relates to more controversial reasons that today's media would not find out somehow. |

Hey CharlieDog, I will give you the classic Cheveldayoff speech that he delivers every year at the draft and after the trade deadline.
Reporter: Hey Chevy, you did not make any moves. Was there talk of making any?
Cheveldayoff: Well we had a few conversations about some possibilities. You know we are a draft and develop franchise and sometimes the cost of doing business is too high. We had conversations discussing a few scenarios and pieces but eventually decided that we did not want to pay the asking price that was being asked. We are really happy with the direction of this franchise and will keep talking to other teams as time moves forward. -end-
I think I nailed Cheveldayoff's classic comments down pat. I have been hearing them for the last 9 years. |
