Until I read your blog, I had assumed that Hutton would have been involved in the conversation and decision with Kreuger regarding his usage following shutouts. Certainly as a pro, Hutton is going to want to play the next game, but I figured Kreuger may have discussed his concept and received Hutton's approval. Perhaps something along the line of energy conservation through the whole season, who knows.
The fact that this doesn't seem to be the case is interesting and runs slightly counter to narrative we've heard about Kreuger's communication with players. |

Nice writeup
The exact reasons for Krueger and his staff's decision to alternate goalies remains in the coaching room but Krueger did say (via a Mike Harrington tweet,) "I'm not really into norms and that kind of thinking." Perhaps there are a few things at play in the coaching room and competition may still be the driving force between these alternating starts. Maybe there's a belief that it helps keep both goalies sharp and it may also help keep the skaters sharp as it won't allow them to fall into bad habits while the team "rides the hot goalie."
I think part of it is that while Hutton is hot now, it's very possible that in a month or two, he goes cold. They don't know who will finish the year better, or who will even be better month-to-month. They're keeping both involved because it's probable they're going to need both of them. Neither one of them is what you would call a traditional starter |

With Hutton turning 34 in a few months, it would be no surprise to me for the team to try to get Ullmark in as often as they can without hurting the team.
Last year Hutton played in 50 games. That was the most in his career by far, and he faced nearly double the shots than the year before in 18 games less.
The NHL season is a marathon and not a sprint. It's important not only to keep Hutton fresh, but also to keep Ullmark ready to start whenever called upon. |

But Cozens couldn't get a 9-game look?

I think Cozens was as ready for the NHL this year as Hughes and Kakko. JBotts is playing it safely in the development curve |

I have no problem with what happened with Cozens, but Gerbe was screaming about Freakorenko for 2 weeks at the thought of Cozens playing a couple games. Now UPL is our carey price at 20 years old coming off hip surgery |

Gotta give UPL a chance to get going again, everybody was surprised he was back, supposedly they thought he might miss most of the season |

If Hutton wasn't leading the league you might be onto something
but since he is, 6 K can be like Cozens

heart, drive, work ethic and determination will be what makes or breaks 95% of all legit NHL prospects
I honestly think to compare cozens, to freakorenko, to girgens, to myers, to dahlin, to stinklander is all bullsh!t
either they have it, or they don't and beating up on 17 year olds instead of learning the nhl game is only going to help them learn bad habits
rant over, not directed at you of course |

Vegetarian hamburgers are bullpoop to begin with - if you're going to eat a burger eat a (frank)ing burger - but if you were going to dabble in the horsepoop, anyway, what made you think that A greasy fast food restaurant might possibly get a vegetarian burger right? |

Hopefully once his season is over, he will join an Amerks playoff run, or even join the big club if the Sabres finally make it and there are injuries |

Normally I'd say you're right, but there are some kids who probably arent ready for the NHL and juniors is just a waste of time. It would be nice of they could go to the AHL - like Casey last year(?) and Cozens this year. Probably Freakorenko, too.
That's where the system fails some kids.

guessing they'd prefer him in the AHL playoffs

Coming off hip surgery ..... I don’t think so. He’s only been on skates for 2-3 weeks now. He needs way more time |

Probably, but if he came in and crushed it, what a story that would be.
That's a long, long way off though of course |
