Carol Schram: A look at the Canucks' defense: Jett Woo, Nikita Tryamkin & Troy Stecher Vancouver Canucks' prospect Jett Wood was named the best defensemen on his WHL team this week, while word is that Nikita Tryamkin might be having second thoughts about coming back to the NHL and Troy Stecher's waiting to learn his fate as he approaches restricted free agency.

Nice Carol! We certainly could use the physicality of Woo and/or Tree on the back end. I wonder if Peters will make tree more likely to stay, that’s an interesting point.

Thanks Carol.

Andy Strickland just tweeted out the players have been told the cap will remain the same next year.

There will obviously be losses in revenues so I am not sure how that affects current contracts and cap hits if their salary goes down say 10 %.

I imagine if fans don't return to arenas it will also affect the cap for the following year depending on revenues and losses.

I think Free Agents expecting this to be a big payday like Hall and Pietrangelo will need to lower expectations.

I like Stecher as a 7 th Dman and one mil per year otherwise he can move on .

I wonder what the cost would be to dumb LE and Sutter and try to get TH or AP. I could see CT/JM taking a short(1yr) term deal, TT is harder to gauge.

I don't know why fans want to bring back a guy that plays 50 games a year and scores less than 20 points .

There will be other options to look at .

CT on a 1 year deal is worth keeping him around, He stabilizes our top 4. Also with a year having other good defender's he played less minutes, less harder minutes, and seemed to get hit a lot less. This may have helped with him staying healthy. If we could get 1 year of CT at the same cap hit, same with JM and get TT back. I think adding AP would be the preferred route. We would need to lose LE/BS cap to do it, but if we managed and could offer him long term, I think we have a shot. Only issue with AP is age, when will the decline happen?

I don't see why he would want to sign a one year contracts. He is an injury prone player that at any time could be gone for a half a year and ruin all the good publicity he built this year.

Secondly I don't want to pay a shot blocker 5-6 mil. Sorry I just don't .

I really hope he signs with the Leafs so we can move on .

lol thx man.

So you are saying basically you are a no go on Stecher? Only if he's cheap and the 7th dman? Doubt he would go for that just to stay in Van...

I don't think there is a lot of league wide interest in him. Much like Ben Hutton some team will grab him for a mil.

We have had a handful of players like that , liked in Vancouver not much interest league wide. Biega would be another comparable.

I would be willing to say he will sign around 1 mil somewhere.

Probably the right call. I'm not saying for sure I want us to move on from Stecher but long term we'd probably be better off.

He is a small guy that battles hard , smart player , doesn't put up numbers . He is not too effective against bigger forwards.

I think a mil is what he should be payed. Every team has 2-3 players like this in their system .

I would rather spend a mil on Schenn TBT

Good luck to them!
I hope their second wave doesn't spread to other states or north of the border.

I told the wife minutes before they can lift the restrictions next month but we will be continuing for at least another month past .

We will let others be the Guinea Pigs to see if the numbers spike.

BC said at least until mid may restrictions will remain

So glad they felt what's his face would help the team more. Guaranteed if Yzerman was the GM they take Hughes.
