While I would like to see him locked up for 5 years 4.3 mill...I think Lou is going to get him for 3 years under 4 mill.
I like what Toews brings to the team and game. He has a lot of upside. |

Under $4M would be a pretty huge win for sure. I think he's probably the second most well-rounded Isles defenseman behind Pulock (maybe not as much in the back half but I imagine he'll return to form next year). Pelech and Mayfield are great defensively but don't bring much offensive upside, while with Leddy, it often goes the other way. I think Toews has a pretty high ceiling.
Thanks for reading! |

Who the hell is devon toews?
Thanks. |

So if toews gets 4 million a year...
Barzal would probably deserve 4 billion. |

Toews had what I guess you could say was a “sophomore slump” for a short while last season that wasn’t all that bad really. He’ll be an important part of this team moving forward. Not physical which is fine but he checks every other box you want in a defenseman. Looking forward to seeing his progression whenever we start playing again. |

Toews can friggin fly which is why I think eventually they can and will move Leddy. Once DT gets a little more disciplined he will most certainly be a top 4 D-man. Between Him, Pulock, Pelech, and Dobson this team has a very solid young top 4 for a long time.
looking forward to watching them all for a long time. |

not sure if you guys read Staple's article on the Best Islanders to wear each number. It was a pretty good read and my son and I had conversations for day on where we did not agree...etc.
Example... Staple had Barzal as best 13. I said Claude Lapointe for me until Barzal is around longer. He had best 29 as Brock. I thought Kenny Johnsson .. guy was arguably the best player on the team for years I had season tix.
it was also interesting to see some numbers had A lot of really good players and others had only one so they were mentioned in article .
many good.. . 27- Tonelli, Lee, Peca, Derek King, ....
16- McEwen, LaFontaine, Ziggy, the great Jon Sim.. and Ladd
just one player.. 66 - JHS, 84- Grab - 82 Straka, 86 kulemin, 92 malakhov, etc

Okay, here is a trade to analyze for Ben and the group.
Isles trade Barzal to the Panthers for Barkov. |

I don't see the value there for Florida. Barkov is easily the better player and he's on a ridiculously cheap deal, for what he brings. Barzal is set to get a new contract that costs a lot more than Barkov's $5.9M AAV.
There isn't a significant enough age gap either.
You could make a fair argument that Florida risks potentially losing him for nothing when he's a UFA in the summer of '22, but I'm still not seeing why they'd trade him.
If I'm playing the game without saying "it's never going to happen": I think the Isles would need to add some pieces to that deal to make it work, and not just scraps/late-round picks either. |
