Welcome to Detroit! We will be Stanley cup bound in 2025, barring any pandemic, that is.

This is why I've been saying I'd have no problem letting some of our AHL UFAs like Terry, Elson, Puempel, Turgeon walk away. Not all, but some. Yzerman can fill roster spots with guys that might possibly develop into an NHL player. I know you were worried about how much work it would be to sign 20 guys but Yzerman likely has more guys like Brome in the works. I expect a couple of mid-20's guys from Europe to come over and take a shot at the NHL. Holland did that this year with Haas and Nygard.

I'm curious if they will start Brome in GR first before hitting the ice in Detroit. It would be cool to see him play here in person for a few games. Glad to see some new blood going into organization (low risk and no valuable assets leaving). There is plenty of deadwood that can sit on the bench to see what Strome can do. I know Vegas wanted him last year and Vancouver & Washington were in the final running with Detroit the last couple weeks. So he's been scouted pretty well I'd say.

I know NHLe isn’t perfect, and Detroit isn’t a typical situation, but his stats over the last two seasons in Sweden suggest a basic, starting projection of around just under half a point per game in the NHL, which is in “really good third liner” territory on typical NHL team.

Best case scenario is probably “Fabbri but can play defense,” which I would be thrilled with. Worst case I think would be something like “Filppula but can’t play center.”

Either way, seems like a solid, low-risk move. Nothing to get too hyped about, but positive steps.

It’s a good question for sure. I was happy to see Detroit win this one for sure!

Agreed. I love Yzerman’s approach on these. Low risk and cost for sure.

Who ever told you that "Detroit fans didn’t have an “appetite” for a total rebuild"?
It certainly wasn't the fans.
He should have started a rebuild years ago.

We have not. We've probably unknowingly passed each other in the concourse a few times though.

That said, I haven't been able to go to a lot of games these last few years. I used to go quite a lot on Wednesday nights (typically all weekday home games are on Wednesday) but then my schedule changed, and then I had a kid, and then there was a pandemic.
