Carol Schram: Willie Mitchell talks post-retirement life and Canucks sign Nils Hoglander In today's blog, we've got birthday wishes for Jim Benning, life as a resort operator in COVID-19 times from former Canucks defenseman Willie Mitchell, an interview with Alex Edler, the Canucks inking winger Nils Hoglander to his entry-level contract and a fantastic Jeff Beck documentary for your non-hockey viewing enjoyment.

Thanks Carol, great job as always.

I can't see a scenario where teams completing their training camps at home isn't a better solution. If players (and families) are isolating at home and it's just players travelling to the practice facility and then home again, there should be no issues with possible transmission of the virus.

Jim Benning says he could see Nils Hoglander battling for a roster spot on the #Canucks next season.

Jim Benning says he consulted with Elias Pettersson before drafting Hoglander.

Pettersson and Hoglander don't know each other personally, but Pettersson is an admirer of Hoglander's game. He was excited to hear the news that Hoglander signed today.

This pretty well sums up any continuation of pro sports this year.

I think it’s a big step for the Hog, the NHL, but the kid is super skilled so if he can overcome the physical aspects of the league compared to the European leagues, it could be a great draft pick.

Interesting article by Ben Kuzma about a possible proposal by agent Kurt Overhardt for the next CBA. He "is proposing a voluntary player-exception program for one player on each club with a minimum payment threshold to qualify. It would allow retention of a top player and not have the salary count toward the cap."

Of course, Benning seems to be against the idea as it would benefit high revenue teams (like the Canucks.) Why does it always seem that this club would rather do what's right for the league as a whole rather than what's right for themselves? Meanwhile, other high revenue teams want to exploit their advantages as much as possible.

It’s a great idea. If the larger revenue/market teams are going to support the lower revenue teams they should get some benefit out of it. Currently they get nothing.

How do you guys listen to that crap? It’s not even music it’s just noise. Not that I’m a huge music fan, I rarely listen to music unless I’m driving. I’m a severely left brained thinker I guess, I have no creativity whatsoever

First off Thanks Carol

Second: Yay Hogs!

Lastly...
Trailer Quarantine Day# 8 Movie# 18 One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Best Picture, Actor and Actress Oscar winning movie about a convict (Jack Nicholson) being sent to a psychiatric hospital to avoid prison. He quickly gets into a struggle of wills with the head nurse to see who rules the roost. Great ensemble cast of actors in various roles as patients. Kinda like this site....

A Movie Quote: Jesus, I must be crazy to be in a loony-bin like this.

Classi! Surely Makita has seen this one?

I think a good follow up to this could be 12 Monkeys

Benning on pending UFAs: We want to figure something out to get their clients to come back but we're just in a holding pattern right now. As soon as we have a better idea of where the cap is at, we'll go hard at it
