The funny thing about Gio is that the time he spent making 4 mill (still amazing return value) it’s hard to argue then was his prime vs now.

Maybe underpaid, definitely not underrated. He's been recognized as one of the best defenders in the league since he became the captain and won the Norris last year and would have another if he hadn't gotten injured.
He'd also probably be a six or seven-time All-Star if they didn't have the wonky format they've been using recently.

For a change I agree with everything you said here. Gio has been a solid top pairing D for a number of years & as he ages, he should be a solid piece of any teams top 4 core. |

I’ll be curious to see if he’ll be protected in expansion. He’s a good enough player that he should be but given his age I wonder if we prioritize our youth.

I think he gets protected. He will digress, but still think he will be able to handle top 4 minutes for the foreseeable future. |

True, I think the question will be will 1-2 good years of giordano be equivalent to 5 or so years of hanifin.
Either way I think we’ll be one of those teams that to trade an asset to Seattle to dictate who they take in expansion. |

We really shouldn't. Resign Brodie and expose him. Problem solved. |

Tough to say, based on my estimates we’re going to lose one of hanifin(if we protect gio), valimaki, kylington, or dube |

Valimaki doesnt have to be protected & kyllington oh well. He has only played 3rd pairing minutes so far so I would even offer Seattle him & a 4th to leave everyone else alone. |

There's zero chance he's not protected unless he gets busted for running a cockfighting league in his basement.
He's given his heart and soul to the team for the past 15 years, he does a ton in the community, and is the captain. How could any player or fan have any respect for the organization if they couldn't show any loyalty to someone who should have his number retired by the team in ten years? It'd be ten times worse than how the Leafs and Senators tried to do Sundin and Alfredsson dirty. |
