There are a lot of holes in the COVID19 preparations, including how on-ice officials are dealt with. But it's by no means the only one, or largest, as far as I can tell.
Seems to me like a reasonable time to make a union-based play, if union-based fortitude exists. Started behind the scenes of course, but what better time to illustrate the equivalency of importance of on-ice official? But that might be too bold...I don't know anything about the siutation.
In any case. I remember recent past NHL playoffs, and I expect a huge variation in officiating (again), period-to-period, game-to-game, but exacerbated as players also variate their wild behavior.
Essentially...at worst, I expect very ugly hockey could take over. Especially if new-to-restart players are submarined by new-ready-to-crush players. I don't expect any of it to be pretty.
